I intend to trade off the Spectacular Spidey. All the others are staying right here with me.

If you know what you are looking for, you can create a thread letting the guys and gals here know what you have and for what you'd like to trade. You can do this in the Wanted List section here: http://www.comicspriceguide.com/boards/Forum46-1.aspx .

As for Kirby... ABSOLUTELY! He was (and is) an icon. I think his work is pure genius. So many of his projects are among my favorites, with a special affinity for The Eternals. In short, I share your admiration for the legend of Kirby.

I dig the Eternals, but I absolutely CANNOT get enough of his Fourth World. When he left Marvel and went to DC he really turned up the heat. Kirby was so important, that many people say that his leaving Marvel to go create for DC sparked the beginning of the Bronze Age! No joke. Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #133, 1st Kirby work for DC, and #134 (1st app of Darkseid) are must have key issues for Kirby fans, and were must haves for me when I started collecting! Eventually Kirby went back home to Marvel, but soon left Marvel again because they didn't provide health and employment benefits! How low is that? Man, artists really got the shaft back then. But he ended up doing animation, and he worked on some of my favorite cartoons as a kid, like Thundarr the Barbarian (with the yellow hair, and the sun sword, and the always yelling "Lords of Light!!"). Kirby is and was a treasure, and he'll always be missed.

Man SchaumburgCollector, if you start me up, if you start me up I'll never stop

Kirby forever!!!

Tex,

Thanks for the suggestion on the potential to trade my book(s)! I don't know what I want for it, so I guess I can go with a "make me an offer" route.

I can't believe Marvel didn't offer benefits! You'd think with all the artists brought to the table, they'd get a fair shake. Yikes! Oddly enough, I have not read any of the Fourth World. I always did want to pick up a NM+ copy of New Gods #1 just for the cover alone. WOW!

Kirby's work is simply unparalleled. Sure, there are much more realistic styles out there but his is just so unique. I just love his vision as a whole... I can't help myself!

Anyhow, thanks again for all the insight and conversation. I'm having a blast already!

You're welcome brother,

I hope you make a great trade.

Yep, comics companies were quite shady. That's why Atlas/Seaboard Comics was so important. They were a small company all about stickin' it to the man (the big 2, Marvel and DC). They allowed artists to keep control of their creations and paid them better wages. This was unheard of until then, and it paved the way for the superstar artists that emerged in the 1990's (McFarlane, Liefeld, etc). I love Atlas/Seaboard comics.

I enjoy our conversations too. I don't mean to ramble, but you keep bringing up great points. LOL!!

I think that'd you'd love the 4th World titles! Pure Kirby!! YES!!

Headed over to HPB today for a little browsing time. I ended up with four readers. I couldn't pass any of them up, and I will add scans if people are interested...

2099 A.D. #1 - The cover sold me on this book. It's a BEAUTIFUL chromium cover. I imagine it will be ridiculous to attempt a picture of, but man......

Bombast #1 - Jack Kirby love for myself and my main man Tex. Can't wait to read this one.

Marvel MAX Sampler - Ohhhh this is nice. I am familiar with a couple of the titles but the rest are new to me. Shame on me!

Marvel Two-In-One #58 The Thing & Aquarian - This is my favorite find of the day. It's a good looking older (relatively) book that I don't have to be afraid to open up and read. I'm curious about this book for some reason.

.......The total damage was a whopping $1 a book. I'm thrilled and ready to read! Thanks for the interest.

Excellent grabs!!

Scan them please and let me see!! I'm gonna grab Bombast #1 myself. MAX has some great titles! They are sometimes a bit hardcore (violence, nudity) but most have great stories. Let us know how you like Marvel Two-in One #58, it may be something I'd like to grab too.

$1 a BOOK!! Can't beat that!

Alright, I'll have pictures uploaded tonight after work for sure! I also found a sealed copy of Marvel Monopoly, so a couple pictures of that will be upped as well.

Wow, I guess I'm a few months late with those scans. I'll get them up today or tomorrow.

It's good to be back! I had to take a hiatus due to a string of situations both triumphant and tragic. Most of my (few) comics are gone (I don't want to go into it, believe me).

In any event, I am now back full swing and looking forward to collecting seriously in 2010. Check back to the thread and we'll see how the year goes! Thanks, everyone.
