Something I found out recently was that ebay has two different rate charts for Final Value Fees.
If you use a 3rd party listing system or ebay tools, then your FVF% will be based on the ending price.
example:
if you start something at $.99 and it ends at $100 you'll pay 8.75% of the initial $25.00 ($2.19), plus 3.50% of the remaining closing value balance($2.63) - $4.82
If you list directly on ebay, then your FVF% will be based on the starting price.
examples:
if you start something at $.99 and it ends at $100 you'll pay 8.75% - $8.75
if you start something at $25.01 and it ends at $100 you'll pay 8.75% of the initial $25.00 ($2.19), plus 3.50% of the remaining closing value balance($2.63) - $4.82 (+you'll pay a higher insertion fee
If you sell an item using one of your 5 free monthly listings, you'll pay 8.75%. That's how I found out about the second chart.
I thought I had been overcharged as I was using the original chart, which can be found after a search on ebay's help pages, so I sent ebay a message telling them so. A few days later I received a message telling me that I had not been overcharged with an explanation of ebay's new pricing structure. I was credited the difference($6.70).
One thing that struck me in the mssg was:
"Please note that it is not compulsory for all the members
to take the benefit of the Price Change."
You either benefit by paying higher FVFs or higher insertion fees.
(Although I did list 1 item for free with a start price of $9.99 that closed at $16.05, so I saved a whopping $.25)
also in the mssg:
"You should choose the option that works best for you. If you do not wish
to take advantage of the new pricing structure, you can opt-out by
listing your items via an eBay tool (some are free) or third-party
listing solution. The new pricing structure does not apply to sellers
who list items through eBay tools or third-party listing solutions."
The two chart can be found here:

| I definitely keep a list of sellers to stay away from and sellers that i have had success with in the past. I try to always look at a good scan before buying but I will roll the dice of a cheap lot of decent comics. I have been burned on this low priced lots too. I actually got 10 avenger comics from the early 80's this week that were said to be NM. I put 1 at VG/F, 4 at F, and 5 as a very low VF-. I was pissed, but i spent 4.00 on the comics and 6.00 on shipping so its not worth fighting it.

Ebay can be a total crap shoot...I try to buy from the comic stores on e-bay not from individual sellers..i seem to have better luck. I just bought Ultimate Spiderman 1-10 (/Red cover/1st prints) for a too good to be true price. Pics looked right on point just waiting to get them latter this week...keeping my fingers crossed.
I have some really good sellers that have comics better then described..let me know if you want me to list them.

Received some books today... more eBay horrors. I expect a grade lower but not several. For now on unless I really need the book I will no longer buy from home sellers.
On a side note, received my shipment from My Comics Shop, awesome books. Love their service. My third time buying from them and I will do so again.
I'm coming for you Fantastic Four #48!!!

| I've actually made it a point to stay away from ebay. Unless I absolutely need a certain comic, and it's a good deal, I just stay away.

I almost buy exclusively from ebay, but then I live in a small town and the nearest comic shop is 30 miles away.
I just keep my bids and expectations low, so I'm rarely disappointed.

I would have to agree with this. I got a great deal (or so I think) on 28 X-Men comics, including #1-8 of Astonishing X-Men, volume 3, in what really appears to be NM condition. I haven't received them yet, but at roughly $1.50 each I would consider it a nice deal even at a VF condition.
I think you just need to ask for bigger better scans of key issues in lots. Most buyers will send them instantly upon request.

There's a thing you can do that's not strictly legal when you get unsatisfactory comics; if you can put the comics back into the original packaging and seal it back up in a way that looks like it hasn't been opened, then you can write "RETURN TO SENDER" on the package and the PO will send it back free of charge. From that point, if your seller doesn't do the right thing, you can file a claim against him in Paypal to retrieve your money.
NR: Young Avengers 1-6 miniseries. Meh.

My Comics Shop is by far the best place to buy from...the only knock I have on them is sometimes they are a little over priced compared to the value of the comic. I have bought from them about 5 times and they are one of the best!!
