I noticed the Top Ten Hottest Back Issues on the main page hasn't changed in awhile so what do you guys think may be the Top Ten Hottest Back issues.
I'm excluding Golden Age and Silver Age for mine because I do not follow nor collect books prior to 1965.... too expensive.
1 - New Mutants #98 1st Deadpool; The merc with the mouth that just won't shut up just won't let up... in being a hot book that is.
2 - Walking Dead #1 (1st Print) Still a hot ticket even with the trade paperbacks out there. Will these Zombies never die?
3 - Chew #1 (Hot, hot, hot) People want this book. I still want this book!
4 - Green Lantern 36; The Blackest Night is still the biggest rage whether it be the brightest day or the blackest night.
5 - GI Joe #1 (Marvel) GI Joe books are in high demand right now thanks to the upcoming movie. Go Joe!
6 - Amazing Spider-Man #600 (Queseda variant cover) Spidey's big 600 has hopefully brought people back to his book. So far so good.
7 - Iron Man #128 (Vol.1) I don't know why but this book never goes for under guide; any guide. With it's classic cover and storyline as well as being rumored as being the plot of the third Iron Man movie, Tony Stark and his alcohol issues are set to sky rocket.
8 - Dark Avengers #1; I haven't read it but, people seem to love it.
9 - Amazing Spider-Man 300; 102 sold on eBay this month; $100 - 150.00 seems to be the norm for the Venom 1st appearance in Mint form.
10 - Green Lantern 37 (variant issue) People want it more than they do a job it seems.
I'm coming for you Fantastic Four #48!!!

Just what are you using to gauge what is "hot"? Price? Availability?Total sales? What are you considering as "back issue"? One month old? Two?

1 - I'm using only eBay and my local stores to gauge what is hot. Price people are paying, the amount of sales, like with Amazing Spider-Man #300 as sold more than the other Amazing Spider-Man books from that era in one month.
2 - Back issues. One or two months old are still fairly new in my opinion. It would be a HOT current issue, not back issue.

Okay, well with respect to total sales you have to be wary that some books may never hit your radars then because hot sales may be well under 100. Remember that some books do not have very high printings and it doesn't take much for demand to vastly outstrip supply. Conversely, books like ASM may consistently sell over 100 plus issues a month so 100 may be low. As well, using ASM 300 again, the prices realized may be consistent with the monthly trend. For books like ASM 300 a spike of $10-$75 may not be unusual or a sign that the book is "hot".
If you want to make lists like this as a general statement of a wider market you have to be sure that you are drawing from as many sources as possible otherwise you will get alot of criticism and even lessen the product you may be representing. Remember, "hot" to most people means that something has enjoyed rising or strong consistent sales and/or the price has been trending up rapidly. When you are tracking data on a daily basis, such as in my job, sudden spike or drops are not of any great concern.
Remember this could be influencing people's buying and selling decisions and "inaccurate" hot charts can rise the ire of many if they are not representative as possible.
(BTW based on your post the initial chart should not be labeled "hot back issues" since Chew and maybe the GL's may be considered by some to be current issues still.)

(I'm aware of this. Dark Avengers #1 is hot, but doesn't even touch ASM 300 in total monthly back issue sales)

(The fact I take into consideration is that ASM 300 currently sells over 100 copies monthly on eBay, something other back issue books from that era fail to do, as well as this book tends to go over guide a lot concerning sales.)

You're actually right about this, though Chew #1 has been out for how long now?

spruce213 (8/4/2009) Oh I know that. I meant as far as me going out and buying, I can't really afford anything under that date.
Ok... so you are starting at 1966 on up...
I too don't really understand your question... I mean, anything once it is no longer current (on the shelf or somebody's comic website as a new issue etc.) would be by definition (to me anyway) a back issue... Once the new one is out, the previous one is back...
But maybe you mean like in the last 5 years or so?
