| So I'm wondering the best method to get the most for some of my comics. Eventually my wife and I will have enough money to open up our own store, and will use a lot of what we have in the store, but we have some worth a LOT of money according to our price guides. I want to send some of them to CGC to get graded, but I just want to know whats the best way to get money for these? I noticed on Ebay most sellers aren't getting even 1/2 of what they pricing guides say they are worth... for instance I have 1 copy of Haunt of Fear #15 (1) worth anything from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. I'd consider it a 7.5 on the cgc scale. I'm going to be sending it to CGC to get graded, but will I be sitting on this FOREVER or is there somewhere other than ebay where I can get to get the most for it? Even when my wife does open up the comic book store of her dreams, I don't want a potentially $2500 comic sitting on a shelf... you know what i mean.

If you really have a classic book in exceptional condition...Heritage Galleries, Comiclink and one of the other auction sites (I forget their name but they are usually on our news about setting "record prices")...would be your best bet...Check out our front page on the priceguide side of the site... Things to bear in mind...to set a record price (or even attain "guide" these days)...it has to be in better than average condition, most likely be pro-graded (CGC books bring in more bucks than PGX books)...and be offered in an auction with a high profile... That doesn't mean Ebay is a wrong choice...I've seen books go for more than guide on Ebay as well...the stars just have to be in the right alignment...

| I've wondered about this myself and I am leaning away from ebay these days. They seem to be on a downward spiral. There are virtually no books being featured on ebay now.No GA,no Sa keys,no high grade slabs. It's a vertiable wasteland. I've got a CGC 9.6 & CGC9.8 graded set of comics from 1942 and I've offered them on ebay a couple of times but no bites with a bin. If I use an auction house like HA or CL,do they have to be scanned? My scanner won't focus and leaves gradded books far too fuzzy.Would clear pictures suffice? I have to take them at an angle though. Thoughs?

| I've been trying to look at completed auction on ebay for some of the more rare/valuable comics I have, and 90% of them haven't been seen on ebay. I've grown quite annoyed at ebay for non-comic items too. I doubt I will use ebay for any of these comics, I'm going to try using Heritage. I'd rather give part of he profits to folks involved with the industry, than a tool for everyone to buy cheap. Ebay used to be something special, now it's just loaded with too many shmucks selling "branded" items only found on their site. I work in the music industry and I'm so tired of seeing folks w/ these EBAY brand instruments wondering why they don't sound good... Well you guys have helped me answer my question

| Keep in mind the commission rates the various sites charge.

| Ebay is an excellent place to sell if you are okay with getting less then top dollar for a book. If you have little in it, you can stand to absorb some loss on a book. The best way to post on ebay, as we usualy have over 2,000 items running at a time, is to put the item on as "fixed price" and mark the box that allows for folks to make offers. Of course, unless you put in an ammount you won't accept under, you will definitly get idiots making low-ball offers... "sell me that for a dollar?"... okay not that bad but pretty offensive... 20.00 offers on 150.00 books! Okay, I fully understand bargaining and going back and forth, so folks like to start low but you can always make counter-offers. To avoid the morons, you need to put in a no-less-then ammount once you click on the "accept offers" button. Ebay will automaticaly send them a decline notice and if they send several low-balls in a row, they will be told they cannot bid anymore for a while. You can also set an ammount that would automaticaly end the auction with a win... so if you have say a $100.00 book and you get a bid for $80.00 you can have ebay accept it. Personaly I like to look at all offers to determine weather I want to accept them or make a counter-offer. I determine that by their rating numbers or if I have done business with them before. Or if I am broke LOL LOL LOL. You may also want to consider consigning books, which will give you the most bang for your buck, with the least ammount of work on your part. Of course most consignors want 30pct but with a big collection it is more then worth it, ya think?
