If your case falls and chips the corner of the case, does the value go down? The comic is untouched by the top left corner is chipped off. Not by much though.

I'm coming for you Fantastic Four #48!!!

Great question. I often wondered if we would eventually get collectors that were concerned about the grade of the case encapsulating the comic as well. Hmm. I think maybe I found a gap in the marketplace to take advantage of. Off to start my own business.

Why would the value of the comic drop if it wasn't damaged? Whether certification is affected or not that would depend on who you sell it to. They might make the case that you tampered with the slab. Realistically I think you have to pretty much break at least two posts to even have a chance to get the book out and even if it is out of the slab and didn't suffer any damage would it be worth less?

That is the funniest thing about graded books. The market usually says they are worth more but I bet you a gazillion dollars that not one person would agree with the grade let alone pay the higher price for it out of a slab ... even if they could physically examine the book.

In theory the value wouldn't be affected as long as four posts were still intact. You can get a book re-holdered at CGC for $11, so if you're looking at a high dollar book then that cost is negligible.

Be careful though, as a holder with one or more broken posts will not be accepted by CGC for a re-holder, they would grade the book again. Time and again con artist sellers (Robojo springs to mind) have managed to manipulate CGC holders and placed much lower grade books in slabs with high grade labels and then sold off the original book that was in the slab as a high grade raw.

These sort of scams go on all the time, so if you're looking to sell a book in a broken slab be sure to include large photos of the damaged area and describe it in detail. People will feel a lot more trusting towards then. On the other hand just send it in for a reholder.

I would avoid a comic in a scratched/damaged slab if it was being sold on ebay. I don't see the point in buying a beautiful condition comic only for the art to be marred with scratches or cracks when you looked at it through the scan.  If other peole feel the same there would be less bidders on damaged cases with potentially lower sales prices realised and therefore lower value

But a lot of buyers normally build up trust with certain sellers. I know for a fact that there are sellers out there who I would buy cracked slabs from for around GPA if I really wanted the book. I would trust them enough to know that the Batman #251 9.6 I'm buying is still a CGC 9.6 sitting inside that slab, and for a book of that sort of price range I wouldn't mind paying another $11 to get it re-holdered.

As for eBay, any buy from there is a gamble - unless of course you use trusted sellers.

Does that $11.00 reholder include to and from shipping/insurance?

Insurance yes, shipping no. But lump it in with your next submission like I do and there you go.
