I saw this and thought it was an interesting bidding technique that could go both ways. Single bidder and the price is still at initial bid, but with 17 bids on it. I guess you could say bidders would just see it and say I don't want it that much and he might get it at the first bid price, but then again, someone could calculate .50 cent bids each and then bid the max. price he's bid and make him pay fully for the item (goes bad for him if the seller has a shill bidder too).

Are you saying that bidder put in 17 bids with 50 cent differentials up to say 18.00 (or thereabouts) and because the ebay computer sees it's 17 bids, but all by the same bidder it stays at the initial bid....(9.95, 10.45, 10.95, etc.). Interesting, I never thought of doing that as I don't really see the benefit, especially as you pointed out, should a curious possible bidder investigate.....I also was not aware you could work ebay's bid system like that as a single bidder.....hmmmmm....

Yep, that's it. But you can see that at starting $9.95 and at 16 .50 minimum increments (though the first one might be .25 since it's under $10, not sure on where it shifts) that he's basically got a minimum of about $18 of bids there.

I don't think it would have the same affect with a more popular/mainstream title.
It looks like that bidder does it often. In his 30 day summary he made 622 bids on 73 items.
The fact that ebay counts these secondary bids almost invites the use of shills to drive up the bids.
