Like the subject asks...Why do you collect Disney comics? I'm not really sure how big of an interest disney comics are to people on this forum..I know they are out there though (^^)

My reason for collecting disney comics...Simply because of cartoons...And I found a way to take Mickey and his gang whereever I went as a child. I guess the habbit was too hard to break Strangely I don't feel the same towards WB characters though..I find their comics slightly annoying (unno why exactly).

I'd have to say a lifelong exposure to the characters...and a heck of a lot of enjoyment along the way...

Tends to carry over in the movies I buy for the kids...

Barks wrote some great stories.

And it's hard to collect comics without having any Disney.  Do the Marvel Muppets comics count as Disney?  It wasn't a Disney property when the comics came out, but now it is...

There is something about the Disney style that is classic cartooning. This is a credit to the early founders of the style, which matured through their animated films in the '30s and '40s. There is also something to the humanized animal characters, which allowed them to appeal to children and adults from every corner of the world. And there is something to the nature of those characters, which seem pure and compassionate, idealistic and dreamy, yet grumpy and fussy; all of the human frailties that plague us all.

I collect Disney because I connect with the vision of Walt Disney. And if the rumors are true, he was actually a bit of freak, much like myself. But what a marvelous freak....

Because I started "reading" comics when I was 2-3 years old with Topolino, the weekly Disney magazine published in Italy. Now I stopped with Topolino, I found the new stories are not near comparable to the classics...That's why I now collect old US Disney comics.

From an emotional point of view, my holy grail comic is Four Color 178, and I hope to have my hands on a copy by the end of 2008

Classic Art, combined with perpetual characters!
What can I say I'm a Barks Duck fan! A Pluto fan too!

Same reason Shadow stated, a lifelong exposure to the characters. I have always loved Disney characters, more so than Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbara or any of the others (and I enjoy them all too). I enjoy the stories and art in Disney comics. I would still be collecting current Disney books, but I prefer them in a standard sized format.

Heck! Unless money isn't an issue at all, and for most of us it is, just collecting all the Barks Duck books would cost a small fortune. Even in low grade!
Comics and Stories #1 to #300 in low grade!?! You could buy a house for that!
For me its one book at a time, and a few at San Diego!

I'd absolutly LOVE to have a complete collection of Carl Barks work but it's something I couldn't do..Like you say Jim it'd cost a fortune even in poor grade.

Sometime this year or the end of last year there was a bunch of Carl Barks stories going on eBay with an authentic certification saying they were from his collection....I was so gutted when I missed out by a few dollars...*sigh*
