I searched, but could find no discussions on the MARVEL MASTERWORKS library. I'm addicted to these books. I remember begging for the first volumes back in the day (late 80s). Christmas of '89 was a special day. I received vol.1 (Amazing Spider-man 1-10) & vol.3 (X-Men 1-10). Once I got to high school, I kinda steered away from comics after discovering girls & partying. About ten years ago I partially returned to my old hobby by picking up a couple more of these classic Marvel collections. Gradually over the years, I fully returned to comics (mostly indie pubs & an occasional Marvel or DC). I currently have a sub box at my local comic shop. Recently I've been addicted to collections & omnibuses. It's nice to have a collected volume of a run of issues conveniently accessible on my bookshelf.

I'm really impressed with the digital recoloring job with the newer Masterworks books, but I'm conflicted with which covers I prefer. While part of me prefers the classic, variant, marble type covers, I really like the look of the regular gray covers. The reg covers have a larger issue cover image on it's front cover & the title's vol. # on the spine. These look nice & more organized when shelved.

On the spine, this is labeled "vol.5" because it's the 5th vol. of collected Daredevils...

The variant covers have the cool foil embossed border around the smaller issue image, but they are impossible to decipher when on a shelf. The vol. # on the spine is the vol # of the entire Masterworks run, not the specific title's run.

...whereas this one is labeled "vol.110" on the spine because it's vol.110 on the entire Marvel Masterworks library.

Other than the dust jackets, the books are identical. Which would you prefer? does it even matter? Anyone down with the MM series? Who do I have to torture to have these published more consistently? I'm gonna die of old age before I get to collect an entire run. (similar to trying to catch up with The Simpsons DVD sets! their latest release collects episodes from a decade ago!)

...oh & then there's those really lame ComicCraft volumes that came out in the 90s. These look terrible on a shelf or on a pile of cash & kittens. Nothing pretty about these at all.

Unfortunately some MM volumes are out of print & the only ones available are these atrocities. (I'm lookin' at you Daredevil vol.2 & X-Men vol.3)

I had about 15 or so Marvel Masterworks edition. I was clearing them out years ago and had a friend sell them for me on eBay (didn't become a member myself until 2004). They all sold for between $60-$125 apiece. I kind of wish I hadn't sold them.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. For books that are simply reprints, they can be worth a fortune to collectors! Of course, they now retail between $50-$55. When they first started up in the 80s, cover price was $25.

Yeah even back than I saw that their were editions going for well over the $125 I got for some of mine, I just didn't own those ones. I cannot even remember the few I had that went in the $120+ range, one of them might have been my Thor volume.
I wish I had held onto them and tried to complete the collection, but too late now, at least for the original editions back them.
I almost got into collecting the Masterworks they have out now, but I would likely pick up collections on dvd if I were to get reprints today.

Does anyone know of a legit source to find a schedule of Masterworks to come? I'm going nuts waiting for the next vol. of Uncanny X-Men. Vol. 6 came out last year! I have heard nothing of vol.7 being released anytime this year. Why has it taken 20 years for Marvel Masterworks to cover a 57 issue span of Uncanny X-Men?! (The first volume covering GS X-Men #1 & Uncanny #94-100 was released in 1989!) For the love of excelsior, these are simply reprints! Why does it take longer to publish reprints than to create new issues? Is there just no longer a demand for new Masterworks editions? Am I the only schmuck that's been forking over my hard earned $$$ over the years? I realize that Marvel has practically the entire run available digitally, but I like having a physical archived library. I love the quality & craftsmanship of the Masterwork series, but this gap between volumes is killing me!!! Any answers, or am I just a stark raving mad old coot?
