Boboset (5/6/2009)
There's lots of Joe collectors out there. That issue is insane to find in HG. Classic cover, classic issue. It deserves that sort of price for the FIRST 9.8. Subsequent 9.8s (very few) will see less of a selling point. However, that particularly issue is VERY sought after. I have to agree with Boboset. This is such an iconic cover and issue. Everyone seems to have one but No-one has an issue in this type of condition. I have 11 copies of this issue myself and none are better than an 8.0 I would never shell out $$$ for that kind of comic plus I never buy CGC but I definately can believe this. Plus the movie hype only helps.

The thing I find amusing is that take that book out of a slab and put it physically in the hands of the potential buyer and no matter how trustworthy the seller is it would never be graded 9.8. Further, no one would spend that kind of money. I wouldn't be surprised if the other three 9.8 come to market and realize much less. I also wouldn't be surprised if it scares out a few other HG issues. IMO whoever paid the $3K just set the one and only price record for that book and they will lose out a couple of K on that "investment".
Whatever, it isn't my money. It might be a great book to Joe collectors but it certainly isn't what I would call a classic cover.

Never read Walking Dead, but from what I've read about the title, it seems like Resident Evil. Is there anything special about this book? I mean, I like stuff in this genre, in fact Resident Evil 2 is one of my favorite games, but over $100 for this is a lot if there is nothing special about it.
I know it is printed in Black & White which is cool, but so is manga. Also, I do believe that there is a resident Evil Comic book out there.
I am not saying anything bad about the book, just curious. I wouldn't mind reading the series, but if issues 1 - 5 will cost me $400, then I am definitely not buying this series (I don't buy 2nd prints or trades unless they are DIRT cheap). Sort of like Grimm Fairy Tales. Raw copies of issues 1 - 5 sold for $205. Also, the variant of the 2007 Annual... paid $20 for that one and it is listed for $7 or something like that... I hate it when I pay over guide (for anything), but it was still the cheapest one out there. At least it has a nice cover. I ended up buying the prints, but they were $1 each. I still think I overpaid because the only reason I bid on them was to get combined shipping. Missed out on the issue I was chasing after even though I bid over guide price... Otherwise, the 2nd prints would have been $.50 each shipped which is about right for me. Funny thing is that 2nd Print of issue 2 seems to be selling for more. I don't think it is in print any longer and sold out from Zenescope, so maybe $1 isn't so bad now
The series that could potentially go up are Witchblade and Fathom. Both have movies coming out and with Turner's passing, you know all the speculators are going to be chasing after anything that he was associated with. I don't mind getting Fathom for myself, but the cheapest I found the series was about $60. More than I am willing to pay for 14 issues because I think the price is a little inflated at the moment. Witchblade 1-6 are selling solid. Still looking for an acceptable condition for my collection of 1 - 10, but they are always too high. Issues 1 - 10 were selling for over $30 each last month when they were listed as Near Mint! I bought a supposed Mint copy and it was VG at best. First ever Modern age comic I saw with Browning pages!! Cover is also a mess. At least it replaces my old Reading copy. I've noticed that this series has tons of bindery/printing defects. All of my issue #1 except the autographed and crap copy have a 4" scratch on it. All my issue #2 have some weird damage on the side near the spine. It is invisible, but it can be seen at the right angle under certain light. All my issue #3 have the same marking along the spine. Don't know if it is pencil or ink, but it looks like a cut along the spine. Also, this issue gets dirty easily.
Back to topic though, Walking Dead has potential to be the next Cerebus or Bone. Maybe that is why it is selling for so much. They are low print and popular. The only thing is that if there are a lot of high grade copies out there, it is possible that only 9.4 and higher will be worth anything for investors. Still $500 for a comic this new is insane even if it is rare. Also, has anyone seem any low grade copies of this book? I am starting to think books under 9.0 do not exist any more, at least for modern books. This can potentially hurt the future collectivity (is that the right word?) of modern books. This could also have an effect on older books as well since these CGC collectors are probably the same people spending tons of money on "High Grade" Raw copies so they can be slabbed. This means that the market could be flooded with high grade books in the future. This could end up like the action figures. At least Marvel Legends brought back some collectors. These are a little overpriced now. Did you know that a Deadpool from Marvel Legends sells for $80 - $150? Toad is something around $100. Funny thing is that Toad was on the shelves and no one bought even when they were 70% off. Yep, they wouldn't pay $3 for the toy, but now, these same people are willing to pay over $80...

JaguarGod (5/8/2009) Never read Walking Dead, but from what I've read about the title, it seems like Resident Evil. Is there anything special about this book? I mean, I like stuff in this genre, in fact Resident Evil 2 is one of my favorite games, but over $100 for this is a lot if there is nothing special about it. imo, Walking Dead really needs to be experienced. It's nothing like Resident Evil. Consider the zombies in this book as the reason for the story more so than a main player.
I first read Walking Dead by checking the TPBs out from my local library (no cost). It's a worthy read if you're into graphic, adult storylines.
