Hi all ,great site,first post.

I have collected comics on a part time basis for years.I'm getting on in years and decided to sell them because I need the money.I took about 300 in to a comic shop I have been dealing with for years today and what a letdown. it was mostly, superman, lois lane, jimmy olsen, superboy and some early Sgt Fury's.The guy offered me $1100 for what I thought was worth $3000.They were all at least good if not VG to F.I had from superman #107 up to (quite a few missing)the 15 and 20 cent covers.I had a NM copy of #199 that I thought would be worth at least$200.I told him to forget it.What is the best way to get a fair price for my books? thx

Depends on what you consider a fair price...

Just because a guide says it's worth $30 (for example)...doesn't mean it's worth $30...

It depends how many copies are out there for sale (Ebay has kind of screwed that for shops and sellers...when you're working with access to a world's supply, you can have a lot of copies to choose from)...how rare the condition is (everybody that's ever collected comics has some in "good to fine")...and how long the shop owner thinks he's going to have to tie up his money in a piece of paper...

The bottom line is...what's it worth on the scrap paper market...and how much over that can you get for it...

If you really want to get top dollar for a book, you have to shop it around...maybe get it pro-graded...and then thank your lucky stars if you come across the one schmo that wants that particular issue in that particular condition...

Thanks for the reply. So I guess my best bet would to be to just put them for sale on ebay at what I believe they are honestly worth.Maybe I should put an add in the paper,2000 comics $5000

Either way is a viable option...

Having dealt with Ebay for years now...it's still a hit and miss situation.
I've seen books get listed over and over again...and other copies in the same condition can suddenly end up in a bidding war between multiple buyers and go for ridiculous prices...

The best bet is to do some research...How many copies are currently for sale...how many have sold...at what prices...etc.

Or you just decide what you want for it...throw it up there at that price and see what happens...
