Those "variants" were probably photoshopped by their intern

I picked up the New Exiles and Young X-Men covers.  I stopped by a local shop and picked one out of their stacks.  I also end up getting another copy of the New Exiles variant in my weekly shipment.

I normally pick the cover I like best when they're fairly priced and not completely jacked up like most shops do now adays for variants.  I like the covers that I've seen so far though

There's nothing wrong with this in my opinion...  This is simply a neat marketing idea.  If you're so obsessive compulsive that you have to have every variant cover across all titles regardless of whether or not you read the book, then thats your problem.  I collect variants for X-men Legacy, Uncanny, and Astonishing, but thats it, and guess what, it doesn't break the bank.  I look forward to the occasional variant because it provides me a way to seperate my collection from everyone elses, plus I enjoy the hunt.  It's not like having variants is forcing you to spend more... if anything, having variants help keep many LCS turning a profit as the markup on them is typically straight profit.  I plan on going back to my LCS tomorrow to pic up some delayed books, but I also plan on looking for these variants just to see if I can find them, as I have no intention of buying any of them.  There's something to be said about the thrill of the hunt.

I agree !

So it looks like Marvel may be adding to the already long list of Skrull variants...  consider it rumour for another couple of hours, but I believe theres a skrull variant for Uncanny X-men #497.  Cyclops will have a green face.  If this turns out to be true, then It looks like I'll have 3 #497's to pick up this week, and my first skrull variant.

EDIT UPDATE:  Turns out that this is a variant.  I picked it up this morning.
