So here's some final scans of Hulk 104. For those who seen the last scan in the before/after topic you will see I got rid of those staple tears. Also some final color touch. Please let me know if I got the grade right and what you think about the packaging and suggestions are welcome as always. front cover is original. back cover is from another copy.

Ok the packaging I used is as follows:

Microchamber paper between cover and pages.

Acid free backboard in centerfold

Inner bag is 4 mil Mylar from Time Lok

Outer bag is polyurethane

Label with grade and security Hologram

Poor Hulk before:

and after:

Seems like a lot of trouble to restore to VG condition

Something seems a bit off, but it looks like it should be a little better than 4.0. Maybe 4.5 or 5.0. This one would really have to be seen in person though, cause like I said, something seems a little off on it. Almost like there is water damage. Is the cover and interior brittle? How tight is the spine and cover?

There seems to be a spine roll, but no creases or at least only hints of creasing along the spine. Seems like a good restore job. You made reference to an original photo, so I will look at that and see how it was restored.

Edit: Just saw the original. Very good job!!

BTW, what are Time Lok sleeves? Can you post a pic of one?

Also, are you trying to get into the 3rd party grading game, or just restoring comics? Do you restore comics you buy and then resell them as restored, or do people pay you to restore their comic?

It seems to me that there is a little bit of colour fading to the text box announcing the Rhino and a bit of smudging on the Marvel Comics in the price box.

I would personally done a little bit to clean those up if I were going to restore it (which I wouldn't because I have a thing for low grade copies). Other than that I would say you have done a bang-up job. Well done.

As JG asked, do you do much in the way of restoration? I love to hear peoples' stories when it comes to hobbies within hobbies like customising figures, collecting OA and restoring books and such. What got you started what is your favorite work to date?

My grade: 3.0

Smudgy cover in the staple area extremely worn and fraile. There looks to be a tear-ish on the upper rear cover that detracts.

What's in my long boxes? http://www.comicspriceguide.com/world/default.asp?m=Magic%20Dan

Ok the hulk is a customers who had it since a kid and had sentimental value but we did it on a budget. I only charged him $10.00 to do it.The smudge is my bad and wont come out. Since it was a budget restore I was limited on the final product.

Also, are you trying to get into the 3rd party grading game, or just restoring comics? Do you restore comics you buy and then resell them as restored, or do people pay you to restore their comic?

I do both mine and customers and you can find out more at www.mikescomicshop.com

Grading is included with any service but I'm not promoting grading only service.

I really like comic covers and cant stand it when they look bad. All my life I have been taking things I own and making look better so it seemed natural to me to do the same for my comics and thats how it began. I'm not aware of too many industries where restoration is that controversial but I don't care. I enjoy doing this so I thought I would do it for others real cheap as restoration can get expensive. I am hoping the ASM 129 and Hulk 181 will be high grades when I'm done and he is paying me a whole $15.00 and for both and ASM 129 got a full wash/deacidification which is alot of work. Its satisfying to see it done and looking better than it did. I think I might have actually found my second calling. (1st being Computers)

Here's what hulk looked before:

So you are listing these as un-restored on your web site? I'm assuming that is just an over-sight.

I just hope you are honest with all your customers about what you are selling...

huh ? I dont have any restored comics for sale at site and the ones listed as unrestored have not been touched at all (not even pressed or dry cleaned). I will never try to cheat a customer since the cons outway the pro's. I've been in business long enough to know customers appreciate honesty and thats worth way more than some profit I would make by lying. The real liars are the people who buy a restore then sell it as unrestored. I dont think that is a problem with professional restores as we are general proud of our work.

So that's a different Hulk 104, and FF 86 and FF 44 that is listed in the unrestored > 1965 -1970 section? You posted all three as resoration projects in this and other threads.

Well I am glad you noticed that. The 86 and 44 are doubles. if you compare the 2 you'll see they are different. the hulk 104 picture is listed under FF87 somehow that picture replaced the FF87 picture which Will be fixed so I'm glad you saw that but 104 is not for sale its a customers. I actually ended up with 4 FF 86's from ebay bidding like crazy and the FF44 dbl is beat and could use restoration but I thought I would leave most of my doubles alone so I would have some unrestored stuff to sell.
