Holy crap!! So I am an idiot for passing on a bunch of these at 7 for $1.... It didn't even dawn on me that these were errors. I just thought one was news stand and one was direct... Sort of like the Witchblade price variants. I have a few of those. Didn't think something like that affected value. Figured, I'll just pick them up next week... Hopefully they'll still be there.

I don't sell books, but this is tempting. Could basically swap one of these variants for key early issues. I should also check my archived boxes to see if I have some that I didn't notice.

So, are all Marvels with $.35 variants? Also, I have some books where I have somewhat of a run, and they have something like "Still only $.25 cents". Then the next issue is $.35. Would this be a variant or just an increase in price. I have no idea which books would have this as I would have to sort through about 20,000 comics to figure it out.

Also, these would have occurred some time between 1974 and 1979 right?

After looking at the CPG database so many times over the last year I've seen that 'high price versions' happen anywhere from (approximately) the 20¢ versions up to the 65¢ versions (higher priced 65¢ versions being 75¢ versions). I don't recall any after that time except the $1.95 or $1.99 versions that appeared instead of the standard $2.00 versions.

35¢ versions can be both standard and/or 'higher priced versions'... it depends on what the standard price was at the time. You can check out the database to see if those issues you refer too are indeed 'higher price versions' and not the standard price.

I swear, if I find 'higher price versions' I'll sell them all on eBay, make a ton of money, and laugh my butt off. I just don't get the astronomical amounts people pay for that kind of 'variant'.

.

I wont lie, shinedown's version is good, but Lynyrd Skynyrd's is what Jesus, Chuck Norris, Chesty Puller, Ronald Reagan, and my Father listen to every morning when they wake up. -'bobthebanshee' on Skynard's 'Simple Man' (an all-time favorite)

Thanks for the info!

Yeah, I don't get it either. That's why I passed on them. It was obvious because some there were multiples of the same issue with different prices. I guess I wasn't thinking like a dealer, but my intent in buying comics is not to sell, not even in the future. Funny, cause with Action Figures, I remember that there were errors at times like figures in wrong cards and such and I bought every version. My intent was not selling back then either. I guess something killed the collecting hobby for me. I don't get exited anymore, so I just buy casually now.

Maybe it was the insanity from 1991 - 1996. Basically everything was an instant collectible. I remember people were killing each other for Angela from Spawn Series II. That was the funniest, because here were these grown men looking to see if Angela was wearing underwear or not Also, starting lineups were insane. There were fights for those things. People would line up at 5AM when a store opened at 8AM and then run for the figures and rip open boxes. Some people did not even care and just ran off with the whole case and just bought the whole thing. The stores even made policies where "collectibles" could not be returned because of that. The best was when one day I went at 8:15 and watched the dealers tearing up Starting Lineup cases and I went up to a shelf and laughed at a figure that was made... Kordell Stewart. I told my brother, "Isn't Kordell Stewart a third stringer? What are they doing making his toy?" Right when I said that, a bunch of dealers ran right over and started throwing money at me. I made $40 for NOT buying a toy I had no intention of buying in the first place. If they would have waited a few more seconds, I would have put it back. Maybe I should have just thrown the figure in the air and watched them fight over it. I found out later that day that the figure was selling for about $60 - $80. I ended up finding two more of those. I kept one for memory sake and traded the other for some Secret Wars figures.

I smell what'cher steppin' in, JG... people are crazy, especially collectors. I know its mostly about supply and demand, its just what they're 'demanding' that puzzles me.

'Slash', huh... yeah, that is crazy.
