it makes no sense, regardless how perfect the condition the book is, for a title with no historical significance in comic history, to be valued beyond $10. The title was never popular, only two of the original 5 characters have current titles, there were no later versions of the Champions, and Don (what the) Heck isn't an artist that's highly sought after by collectors.

This is the best example of the flaw of slab pricing. While it has established a standard in grading books, the pricing going on EBay is so removed from the reality of historical pricing. If Champions #1 is worth $125, then perfect first issues of ROM or Micronauts or Shotgun Warriors should be too. Hell even the recent Supreme Power slabbed which you think is stupidly over-priced, is actually a bargain in the context of EBay bidding.

Can anyone explain this to me? Why are non histrocial bronze age books going for such crazy prices? They price should not be based on condition of book alone!

I assume it's a combination of label chasers and high grade collectors with a genuine nostalgic feel for the title, that said I understand how you feel.

Earl.

You know when I saw this title I was going why is this guy coming down on The Defenders? Suddenly I see that you are talking about The Champions with Hercules and Ghost Rider and well, I have to agree.

Where does he get those wonderful toys!

I have yet begun to surrender.

I want a 9.6 Champions #1...  if I get a good enough deal.  That is one hell of a Marvel BA cover there, and it IS a semi Marvel BA key issue, it really is.  But I do see and completly agree with what you're saying, just not with THE CHAMPIONS!

I too think that super high grade label chasers are little off their rockers, but in this hobby it's difficult to find a position of pure rationality from which to dispense one's incredulity.

I've read most of that series. Not a very good idea for a team, the writer could figure out what to do with them (was that Tony Isabella?)

I'd recommend collecting it in slabbed form.

It's Champions#1 that's how.  Go google it or something I don't know.

I think it may have some appeal to folks like me (later 40's in age) or there about... not sure I would pay that kind of coin... but, again, think the biggest interest would be for folks my age, give or take...
