dually (spell right?) noted. Yeah I'm creating a myspace now. I have no clue how to set up my own website. Mysapce and facebook are tricky b/c I wanna put blogs out and info on where to buy my stuff (probably at conventions until-<crossing fingers> I get distribution, but I gotta have something for people get access to online. Unless I just do an ad in Wizard, buy my comic, send post to...

| Okay so if I can fund it I'm totally gonna have a cool gadget to sell with the comic. Maybe little kids will buy it. I'm also going to have a few flyers that will be like a survey or something. Does anyone know if anyone's stolen anything. I'm going to bring a prop (mega cool and expensive mask) but I don't want people to touch it. I'm gonna put up a sign saying "Please do not touch" but I gotta be careful some people won't listen.

| OYYY okay, that's what I figured. Maybe I can bring a little table and have it next to me so I'd see if someone grabbed for it. I'm getting totally excited. I'm losing $100, but I gotta pay this credit card off first. Promises promises! Have a great weekend, GO SEE STREET FIGHTER

i have been going to wizard world philly or east which it is called since it started. i check out artist alley at every con i go to. and the book i buy from them are from the guys who are very out going and trying to get a fan base. they stand up called people over talk about there book. the hot chick idea works too but remember who goes to cons, guys who don't get out much, but if she is there at the table with you or walking around the con make sure she has a friend with her to make sure she stays safe. as for the t-shirts its a nice idea but not practical because you have no fan base, yet. but the biggest suggestion i can give you is have prints of your artwork so you can sell them at the con and offer original artwork. whatever your style of art is, someone will like it.
and one thing about setting up a facebook page is they own your artwork and story until you delete the account it's in the user agreement if you don't believe me. myspace is safe for artist so far. but there are other sites you can use that will let you keep the rights to your books and art.
i hope this really helps you.
and post a link to your myspace page.
let us take a look at what you got

I'm replying late, but I think there are too many crappy indy books out there and creators overestimate the quality of what they are trying to sell. I'll look at any indy book if I don't have to talk to the creator. If you are sitting there and I'm going to have to insult the book to your face, it makes more sense to stay ten feet away and give you the hint that way. If for some reason you have a diamond in the rough, chances are I'll walk up and talk. Too many creators try to do the hard sell and they just need to shut up and see what the book can do on it's own. If you want this comic book to sell in a store someday, then watch how people react when they see it without talking to them. Be humble also. You won't be in a store doing the hard sell, so you need to get a clear picture of what it can do on it's own. If you have to defend your product at a show, it wasn't worth setting up. The only way to know is to try. That being said, there are some nice looking books that I still wouldn't buy if the subject matter didn't interest me. By all means, seell a professionally bound product. Hand collated stuff is fine on the web or to your friends. If you are selling to the general public, it should look like a professionally done product.

| Okay so I've been to 3 cons and they were busts. (Well I went to two and watched as a customer the third one). dago NO ONE WENT BY ARTIST ALLEY AT A LOT OF THEM. Most people are there to buy from the Man, aka the big guys, aka the corporate stuff. oh well live and learn.

| So, you started this thread in February, and it is now August, almost September. How are things going with your comic? Not sure if you have done this already, but make yourself some profiles online with FACEBOOK, MYSPACE, and others, and put some of your work on there. Start networking. Become friends with many of the publishers and artists that are there. You should connect with artists, pencilers, colorists, writers, etc. I know of one publisher who started like you. Billy Tucci, creator of the SHI titles. Beautiful work that eventually got bought out from under him. No one can draw Shi like he can.
