mini memories for you earl

All Star Squadron 5-16, An1
Arak Son of Thunder 5-16.......Roy Thomas had just left marvel for pastures new at Dc.He got to work on the WW2 DC characters he really loved and it showed and he did a riff on Conan with arak but brought in some real world history to it with a kick *** companion in Valda the Iron Maiden

Blackhawk 251-253...Mark Evanier weaving a cool WW" storyline -he claimed later on that DC didnt even know they were publishing Blackhawk at the time -plus some excellent Chaykin covers

Camelot 3000 1

mike Barr pre Batman and the Outsiders  and Brian Bolland pre the Killing Joke with a brilliant storyline

Justice League of America 198-209..not too sure about this one ,I know I loved the Gerry Conway run on JLA which started with the white martians blowing up the watchtower etc and led to Gypsy and Steel etc and Conway talking directly to his audience and asking for patience and understanding with what he was trying to do...it didnt work ,,readers revelled and wanted the big guns back

Legion of Super-Heroes 283-294, An1..my favourite storyline probaby ever in Legion ..at least until the Stern Peyer reboot and not a lot of people loved that era

New Teen Titans 15-26, An1

readingthe latest issue of Backissue magazine which just covers this Perez /Wolfman era ..Donna TRoy was never so good as when she was Wondergirl ..they runined her when they made her Troia ..I thought she was one of the main characters /real characters in the DC universe at the time and should find a way to bring her back as she was then maybe through the 52 earths ?

Night Force 1-5

...Wolfman and colan trying to recreact their Tomb of Dracula run ..with a large degree of critical success if not commercial
Tales of the New Teen Titans 1-4

Yep, 1982 was a special year for DC. I had been into Marvel since 1978 with the launch of Star Wars. I had tried a few DC's prior to 1982 but had not been that impressed. All Star Squadron, Arak, Night Force, The Titans, The Legion, Swamp Thing, Camelot 3000 in 1982 turned me into a lifelong DC fan.

I enjoyed 1982 Justice League especially the x-over with All Star Squadron.

I was not a big fan of the Superman titles, Wonder Woman or the Flash back in 82 though. Wonder Woman was saved somewhat by the Huntress back up's.

Earl.

That was Per Degaton and it led into the Generations saga of Infinity Inc with Ordway art etc ..wasnt it .

I love time travel/alternate history tales

Earl,

Are you sure that you don't already own all of the Detective Comics issues from 510-521? According to your world list of what you own, you have all 12 issues. The issues you are missing are 507 and 509.

If you were an avid Batman reader back in 1982 then you would not have missed any of the Detective issues because in the 1982 cover dates Batman and Detective comics storylines began crossing over back and forth each month. The two titles became intertwined.

In fact that's why I have a beef with the valuations of the two titles. It doesn't chime that the Batman NM value is 14$ while the Detective NM value is only 6$ if both titles featured the same storyline, the same writer, the same artist (Gene Colan), etc.

If one is a true collector, I think complete story arcs should take priority over just complete issue number runs of only one title. Both titles should be in equal demand.

And that is why CGC-only collectors are missing out on what comic book collecting is all about.
