Robert Downey & Iron Man will be in an Avengers movie... that already counts as a sequel.
Most books will not continue to rise immediately following the release. Prices may not drop, but they usually don't continue to rise. The prices spike before the movie due to people speculating that the movie will be a hit. Once the speculators quit buying it, the demand deflates pretty quick.

defiant1 - would you say prices for Iron Man books should fall back inline (more normal market prices) by the start of the 4th quarter 2008? (oct.-dec.)

I don't think the prices will drop, but that's a flat out guess. I'm kinda out of the loop on what the current trend is on these keys. If it were a newer book I'd say yes. Seeing that it's a VERY popular character from Marvels earliest years....I don't think it will go down. Iron Man was easy to forget for a long while. This movie and the upcoming ones will make it harder to forget him.
I would definitely wait until after the movie hits the theaters. The sense of urgency will go away for a lot of people. The worst time to buy a book is when everyone is talking about it. Wait until the talk diminishes some.
It's not a bad idea to be thinking ahead. Very few people seem to be talking about an Avengers movie. Buy the best copy of Avengers #1 now, then when it's a hotter book amongst speculators (with the price going up)...you can leverage to trade your Avengers #1 for a comparable price range on TOS #39 later. Think outside the box. Always trade for full market value on expensive stuff that has a proven demand. Trade the hot stuff the dealer needs for the cool stuff you want. Dealers all want TOS #39 right now, but it'll be something else in a year. Stay out of sync with the demand. You don't ever want to be shopping for something when you've got other collectors over your shoulder offering the same or more money. Not unless you are arrogant like me. Sometimes I go get what I want when I want regardless of price. It's rare that I do that, but it happens occasionally. The most important rule is to be willing to walk away from any deal no matter how much you want it.
