I am a serious grumpy camper tonight. Got home from a Con and was all excited to post some nice scans for everyone to check out and damn it computer troubles. So fast forward past installing a new HARD DRIVE and a new Operating System and I settled in to post some scans. Forgot to install my software for the scanner and when I went to install it, it tells me its not compatible with my OS. So sorry folks no scans of these at the moment, I'm trying to fix it.

But on to the good news. Adventure Con was a gold mine of epic proportions for me this year.

Check out this magic

Picked up :
King Size X-men #1
Uncanny X-men #68 (note concerning earlier discussion on this one, nailed down a nice copy for $12)
Uncanny X-men #52
Uncanny X-men #36
Uncanny X-men #35 ( can't wait to show you this one)
Uncanny X-men #23

And wait for it, wait for it ....

Uncanny X-men #5

Adding #5, 23, 35, 36, 52, 68, and KS 1 (oh and 511 from the LCS this week)

Have : 1,2,5,8-10,11,14,18-20,22-26,28,30,31,34-38,40-66,68-511
and Annuals 3-18,95,96,97,98,99,00,01, vol2-1,2 plus Flashback -1 and GS 1-4

Current Run Total: 531
Current Set Total: 565
Longest Consecutive Issues Run : 68-511 = 444 issues

15 issues left to complete the run.

Thats awsome, I need to ask how much did that bundle of joy set you back? I've been concentrating on collecting some of the variants recently. Said I wouldn't but found some good ones on e-bay and couldn't resist. I've now got all but one toybiz (marvel legends) UXM and all but 2 of the sears/JC Pennys reprints. Plus I managed to get a few others. I can't wait to see those scans - What have you graded the No.5 at? I'm at a comic mart in london as well as a con this month
and going to see what I can pick up .

It was too bad on cost. $237 dollars total for the 7 of them.

King Size X-men #1 $10 (talked the dealer down from $15)
Uncanny X-men #68 $12 (talked the dealer down from $16)
Uncanny X-men #52 $20 ( stole this one for its grade)
Uncanny X-men #36 $20
Uncanny X-men #35 $70 (see note below)
Uncanny X-men #23 $15
Uncanny X-men #5 $90 (see note below)

Got 5 and 35 from same dealer. Was trying hard to get hid price down. The total for the 2 books was 195, so I was working and working to get a deal, but he really wasn't budging on either book. Finally I looked right at him and said, whats rock bottom for the 2 books together. He got surprised because he thought I was haggling to get one book at a good price, when he realized I was buying both books I got the price down from $195 to $160.

I learned to haggle from my dad as a kid going to flea markets and man it still works magic at cons.

"I've now got all but one toybiz (marvel legends) UXM and all but 2 of the sears/JC Pennys reprints."

Those action figure reprints have been the bane of my variant hunting. I really can't tell you how many times I've found them and had people try to sell them to me as the original.

As for the Sears/JC Penny reprints, I thought there were only 2 UXM books on that list, 245 and 268. Are there more? If there are I gotta update my shopping list.

They incorporated 268 into their pack in 1992, 60, 61 and 245 (plus Marvel Milstone X-men #1 but not sure i'm interested) in 1993 and 28, 62 and 63 in 1994. I am picking up all but 60 and 61 tomorrow They were being sold by the same seller as the actual reprint and picked them all up for $1 to $2 each I could have had 61 as well but computer crashed while bidding on ebay

I'm pleased with my Toybiz haul as I got all of them for between $1 and $6 but most at about $2. I think, if i'm right, I only need 1, now, to complete the set although I'm not sure which one at the moment .

I must be honest though I would be exceptionally proud if I got the comics you did at the price you paid, well haggled

I thought the reprints of 28, 62, and 63 were from the Stridex corporation. But I didn't know 60 and 61 were reprinted through Sears, I'm updating my variants list.

Do you know if the reprints of 62 and 63 are visually identifiable from the front cover? I know 245 and 268 are easy to spot if you know what your looking for.

28, 62 and 63 Look almost identical to the originals. They have different advertisments and, as you alluded to, they have an advert for stridex on the back. Supposedly the Reprint of 28 is actually a reprint of 76 but with the cover of 28. I also believe 60 and 61 have identical front covers to the original but they also have newer advertising with X-Men on video advert on the back cover. 268 has an x-men trading card ad on back and again is supposed to be identical to the original. I believe all of these were distributed only via sears and JC penny's Xmas catelogue but I cannot be certain. They are supposed to have 2nd printing posted in the indicia but I cannot confirm till I pick them up.

Once I pick them up I will try and spot any front page differences. I can imagine how annoying it would be to be offered these as first prints

The 268 reprint isn't identical, it has a swinging Spider-Man in the upc and is missing the british price. Makes it easier to spot. I'd scan it but, sigh, scanner still on the fritz, hope to get that figure out sometime this week.

Ok, finally got the scanner up and running with some help from my more patient wife. Had a delay due to house guests but I can finally show off some of the books I posted the other day.

First up, the wonderful copy of #52 I picked up.

Then the copy of #5, I've graded it at 3.0, but I like the book.

Then the one I am most proud of, I've waited and waited for a higher grade copy of this book and I am so proud to add it to my collection.
