As I look over the auctions on ebay for thoughts on how to construct listings, I am finding terms like "looks VG-ish except for water stain", "complete and fairly sound except that some bozo placed some unnecessary tape over the staples", "Very good used condition - some very minor creasing" and "There is a fair amount of wear and tear on the cover, and the pictures pretty-much speak for themselves in that regard."
(Is "very good used condition" the same as "VG?")
Some books - usually, but not always, higher graded books - are bagged and appear to be CGC/PGX graded, but the other listings contain wording such as above.
I've studied this forum and other websites devoted to grading, received grading assistance from members and worked a LOT with the example-based internet grading system. Quite obviously, that makes me a pro grader like living in Alaska and seeing Russia makes me an expert on international relations. Nonetheless, I am inclined to be a bit more specific in my listings than the vague blatherings above.
Would it be a good idea to mention MY grading estimate if I caveat it with my experience level?
TIA!

The answer is...no. Unless you are relatively secure in your grading, which means you are going to be spot on or under all the time, it is best just to include high resolution photos and let the pictures speak for themselves. Include specific items of interest such as any flaws, corners and interior pages helps.
Where does he get those wonderful toys!
I have yet begun to surrender.

| The way that I feel about very vague grades depends on the seller and the picture. If it is obvious that the person knows nothing about grading and comic values, then you can get a good deal. My favorite line... "I found a bunch of 1940's comics in the attic. They were my Father's. I don't know anything about comics..." But she decided, nicely enough, to sell them on ebay....to me....really really cheap.... Now as far as selling and comic grading. If you aren't a good technical grader, then just list with the big flaws and general condition. If you want to be a good technical grader, then do as I did, and go to e-bigs and practice on thousands of comics until you can grade em in your sleep. As a seller, especially on ebay, your reputation is paramount. Scans are good, but accurate descriptions are important as well. People shy from buying things they cant see if the descriptions are vague, and a vague grade is a vague description. So if you cant grade, and dont wish to learn, dont!!! Provide an accurate description instead. Even though I grade accurately. I have the following posted at the bottom of every auction. "All comic grades based on my grading and strict e-bigs guidlines. Scans on listing are of actual comic being sold." I also offer full refunds. I have yet to have anything but a positive review. I hope this is helpful to you or any potential sellers out there.

I always like the line "I am not a professional grader, but I would put this comic in the G-NM range."
Thanks for all the precise info, Duke of Douchebaggery!!!
