OK-how many marvel characters can we name that died and never came back. I am, of course, not counting recent deaths.

Mockingbird and Swordsman will get the list started.

---Even though they kind of cheated with Swordsman and brought back some crappy alternate reality Swordsman.

From what i can gather...(and i might be wrong on this!)

The reason that these heroes/villans dont remain dead has to do with the copywrite on the characters...if they dont use the character after so many years they could loose the rights to that character and name...
And that has potential to do harm to thier buisness....that would be why you see people brought back...

.....Marvel is bad about recycling...they kill someone off and then slap the name on someone eles or they bring the character back after only a few issues...Or better yet...they find some cockimamy way to bring back the character...but not have it actually be the character (recent Capt. Marvel run).....

....DC is just as bad...but not as often (although i could be wrong)...the Flash has always been around because there are/have been 3 diffrent Flashes...but..not a Barry Allen Flash...so...now hes back.....

I get the whole copyright idea. In fact, I have seen companies print one issue back-up takes featuring characters that haven't been around for years simply to keep the rights.

Let's not let legal issues ruin a perfectly good thread though.

Who has died and stayed dead.

All I could come up with...

Cypher aka Doug Ramsey (From the New Mutants).  There was a weird Douglock charactor (Warlock & Doug combined) but that isn't the same thing or the same charactor, so He has effectively remained dead.

Ben Reily (Cloned Spiderman) Though I don't read spiderman so he may have popped back up, or for that matter never died to begin with.

Thunderbird (From the X-men).  Theres been back up tales, and Skrull imposters, and even other mutants using his name, but the original From Giant Size X-men has never came back.

Way back in the late 80's there was a storyline in Captain America where some joker named Scourge was killing masked villains. He offed some real second stringers like Blue Streak and a bunch of other losers I can't remember. I don't think any of those characters ever came back.

Ah, look no further than Generation X for a slew of deaths:

BANSHEE

SKIN

SYNCH

Also, Emma's entire student body was killed prior to her switching to the good side. "The Hellions"

Lots of kids were killed in those bombings at the Xavier Institute in New X-men.

Also, the fourth Guthrie..."Wing"? He's toast.

Ummm... Capatin Marvel. The recent Captain Marvel was a Skrull imposter and not the real deal.

Other's: Ben Parker, Matt Murdock's dead girlfriends (except Elektra), and Gwen Stacy.

aaah. Gen. X. I loved Skin. How did I forget about that one?

Didn't Gwen Stacy come back at some point? Or was that just one of the House of M type stories?

She came back clone like and in a house of M type story but the real Gwen stayed dead.

I'm trying to think of other noteables. Warlock comes to mind. He's stayed dead.  So far Steve Rogers has kept dead but I think we all know that won't last with the movie coming out.
