Just curious since trades are becoming a bigger thing...Are you more likely to pick up a trade for a modern comic book over collecting the whole series in comic book form?

Me-
I've made a promiss to myself that I'll collect trades from now on unless I really like the series and feel the need to own all the comic book themselves. My main reason- SPACE! And I also like having the story in one big lot then waiting for it to come out each month (^^);;;

I collect neither, but read primarily trades. There are exceptions, of course; I think I'll be dropping by the LCS to buy Final Crisis, though mainly it's to avoid spoilers.

Hmmm..a little confused how to answer this one.

If I am buying a modern series, I will ALSO buy the trades....

There are a few that I will only buy in trades, but for the most part I continue to buy both.

Does that mean you'll buy the same comic as a trade and as a normal comic book?

I guess you'd answer 'depends on the series'..I think..Or maybe 'yes' and 'no' that's why I left it optional because people collect in different ways and probably for certaini series and not other ones

I usually only buy trades if I want to catch up on a series that has been around for awhile and the back issues aren't available cheaply. For instance, I started buying the individual issues for Fables around issue 50, and bought the trades for all the issues before that. For Y, the Last Man, I had to buy the first 3 trades to catch up at the time.For Invinible, it was the first 4 trades.

The only exception is Walking Dead, which I buy both of. My wife prefers to read it in trade form, but I can't wait that long between issues.

I'm trying to cut down on the monthlies and read them in trades instead. It's not that easy, especially after over 20 yrs of reading comics that way but I find myself waiting to read 6 issue arcs all at once anyways so it wouldn't make much difference. So why aren't I doing this already??

So after reading a comic book or trade you just get rid of them
since you collect neither? Or do you have a collection of books that you have accumulated/collected over time?

I collect comics and only buy trades when I like a series/story arc enough that I will reread over and over so as not to lower the condition of the comic books or didn't buy a set of books and found out later through these boards that it's a really good read and then buy the trade if its offered through a publisher. Also buy trades for gifts to younger family members.
So 99% of the time a book over a trade.
