Hey Jesse,

You are truly an expert buyer. I tried to take your advice and use halfpricebooks, but there are none in Georgia. Not one. Would they send out a list of what they have and ship, or are they a walk in and buy type of store only? Do you have any contacts for the Texster? Thanks Jesse...oh, and...BANG BANG!

What up tex!!!

you know its walk up right now.  But to be honest all lcs are doing huge markdowns

look at peps buys from howies.   The main thing show that you will by some bad stuff or drek ever once in a while that way they give you good stuff as well when they go on sale.

nobody likes a cherry picker.  I been very lucky this year through my lcs and 1/2

check on line alot for deals.

Good Luck brotha!!

Bang Bang back to you!!

Thanks Jesse,

Ohh what a DAY!!!  So I won $20.00 today hard cash so i decided to go to the Bellevue ,WA

1/2 books for the .10cent and .25 box to see what was new.

SO FIRST OF ALL DON'T HATE ME!!!!

It was so unbeleivable I took a picture with my cell phone at the register.  I should be getting my dig camera soon as well.

Okay i spent $14.80 and got 64 comics.  22 of which was drek but needed it to fill some runs. I finished putting them tonight and the total was $725.00 but then after EEIG it end ed up being $336.12.

1st my best and new favorite comic.

ready for this I paid .08 cents for this. I graded it at a 9.0 book value $55.00.  It is very nice and was surprised.

here are some others that I just love

6.5 paid .06 cents

6.5  paid .18cents

5.5 paid .18cents

2.5 paid .06 cents for this I couldnt resist even though its junk its good junk.  I read it and will sell it for a couple of dollars.  JLA #27

3.5 paid .18 cents again a junk issue but nice to have just for fun

 6.0 paid .25 cents

8.0 paid .13 cents also got #129 (7.8)#131(8.5)#150(8.5)

7.0 paid .30 cents

9.0 paid .38cents

8.0 paid .13cents

the rest were graded from 3.5 to 9.0 the low graded ones I bought just to get and paid nothing more than .13 cents to 37 cents

defender  #64

Shazam     #73

sgt rock    #412

star trek (volume 1) #1

weird war tales  #30 and #121

super goof #42a

kobra #4

sub marineer #42 this was only a 2.0 but got it to read it paid .06 cents

captain marvel #31 again only a 3.0 but got it for .12 cents and always a good read

johan hex  #52

shade and the challenging man #2

dc comic presents #91

Please if anybody lives out this way check it out so I have someone else as prove. these buys the last two weeks are kind of un heard of.

Okay my rants,

So i meet the new manager and we talked at the counter today and he is really a nice guy and think we will be doing some good business together.  So I have edited my previous post since I might have been a tad to harsh at first.

Stupid Thoughts

Why can't G-4 have a comic book area they only do it during san diego comic -con.  I think enough people would watch it.

Also how about comicflixs on line.  I know marvel has started this but I think it could be cool if you could go on line and see any distrubator for one price.

Okay leave for Vegas in one day so have one post and done for 4 days.

Okay all have a good night and if your in seattle let me know and I'll give you directions to all the 1/2 price books.

Good going Jesse,

I wish that halfpricebooks had been around, and had unbeleivable deals like that back in 1997 to 2000 when I was stationed up at Fort Lewis. I would have made a killing! Just keep posting those great finds Jesse and I'll be satisfied. Congrats!!

I'm new to this site, but not new to comics. I learned about this site through HPB and found these posting about them.

I've been collecting comics since I was about 5 years old. the first ones I bought were the old Marvel Godzilla comics for 30-35 cents. I used to go to a shop in Rochester NY right near the Great House of Guitars. My mother would walk my brother and I down there - he'd get Devil Dinosaur and I always grabbed the Godzilla. In my college days I spent 5 years working at a chain of comic stores in the Rochester NY area called Wonderland Comics and I managed 2 of his locations myself. a great place that will always have a place in my life. I have since moved out west, but still visit the old shops whenever i go back to NY. and now I have HPB as well as 2-3 area real comic shops that I frequent.

I love HPB and I also recently found a few gems - some very very early X-men (issue 32, 43, and a lot in the 60's, and almost all of them in the 70's-90's which I got for half of cover price). X-Men is one of the few series that I hope one day to have complete, and I got a lot of the issues i needed for very cheap. They were not all mint - but at least now i own them and it saved the the hundreds i would have had to spend otherwise. I think it helps a lot having people like us coming in and getting these great deals. HPB gets a lot of comics in each week and all the locations I visit have a limited space for them on the sales floor. I spend a lot of time talking with some of the comic guys there and one thing to keep in mind is -HPB is NOT a comic shop, so they cannot take the time and do not have the space allocated for comics that a real comic shop would have. so getting quick sales turn around is what it is all about for them. guys like us help them achieve that quick turn around in the comic sections - and we make out with some great deals. it really helps everyone out in the end - we communicate the great deals which brings more people in searching for those gems, and at the stores they get steady sales and the product keeps moving. it's kind of like any other second hand location - like The Good Will or flea markets - occasionally they spot a gem and price it right, but more often than not - they don't have the time to spend on the comics when there is so much more going through these places.

I know some of the stores use this very website for helping with pricing thier comics. but they don't price them at guide. they usually do about half of what the listings are here. For example: I recently found a couple issues of X-Men that this website would have priced out at $50-$60 - HPB put them at $20-$25 and put them in the higher priced boxes behind the counter (which reminds me -always ask to look at the stuff they pulled out behind the counter) - now i didn't buy them even at that price, but still it shows how they don't have the goal of getting guide for the gems they do find and price up. I would guess that most people coming in HPB to look at comics would not pay comic shop prices for stuff like that and the goal is to make the sale. the point is sell thorugh - this stuff makes no money for them if it sits there forever waiting for the right person to come in.

to answer a few of the other questions in this thread - HPB doesn't have locations in every state yet - but the company is growing and are now at over 100 stores in the US - so maybe soon they will show up near you. and right now they do not have an inventory - so no way to check thier stock. some locations do mailings though - but you would have to call and ask for specific issues then work out a way to ship them to you. and that's a shot in the dark cause it's rare they'd have exactly what you are looking for at that exact moment. and of course no one is going to read through their whole stock searching for a gem for you while you are on the phone. hehe. we can't expect them to spend hours on the phone doing that for us.

So where u live now CG25?

They are slicing there comics so fast now I can't keep up.  I no longer buy from behind the counter until I see it slashed three times.

The finds I got yesterday was in a box they put out because they didn't have time to check the prices.

I was trying to get back today to 1/2 but trying to hide the 200+ comics i just bought from my wife has being challenging.

If I had the money i would definetly open one of these stores in one of the states they aren't in.

okayWp please remember this is my own thread not my "are you a Rock fan" post LOL

okay all, happy hunting and get the good stuff before your neighbor does.

Jesse James

thanks King

All I was going to say was Good Luck on the marriage, but one thing I've learned is don't try to hide stuff from the wife...they always have a weird way of finding stuff out. Share the comics with her...read them out loud to each other..it will bring you together, and who knows ...but when you start hiding the comics buys....I don't know...next it will be other things you're hiding..then she hides..and the next thing you know, everyone's a secret agent...trust me, next month makes 18 years of marriage for me...I stopped hiding the new comics buys long ago, and now just ramp up the excitement to a fever pitch that she sometimes catches...wish I could get that excited when she comes home with new shoes...Is she a fan of The Rock? BTW?
