So you want to upload some comic covers.

First off, thank you for helping us make CPG the best comic resource on the web. Here are some guidelines to upload comic cover scans to the database. If you don't see your scan approved within a 2 week period it might have not been up to par, please review the items below and make sure the scan meets all requirements .

First off if you are new to scanning comics, take a moment to read a quick step by step to scanning I have here at my website. You can also see some examples of bad scans that will not make it into the database.

Covers must be:
1. Cropped properly. No background showing.
2. No digital camera pictures. 
3. No covers with URL, company watermarks or logos.
4. No covers with scanline patterns will be accepted.
5. No covers scans with the comic still in the bag and board.
6. No grainy or blurry scans. 

7. Adult covers with nudity must be edited with black boxes.

The only exception to the above rules are Golden Age covers.
We are a little more flexible with these, due to the rarity of getting a cover scan.

If you are scanning in your own covers to upload I recommend a 200 to 300 DPI setting and then resizing the covers to a 350 x 535 pixel size before saving. This is a standard I have used for a few years that makes a good clear scan without being a huge filesize.

HOW TO UPLOAD A SCAN:

1) Make sure that you have logged into the main CPG site.

2) Using the "Search By Keyword" field at the top of the CPG's page. Find the main title listing for the comic you have a scan for.

3) Once you've found the title, find the issue # for the issue you have and click on it.

This should bring you to the individual listing page.

4) If a scan has not already been attached to the listing you should see the following image where the scan usually is:

Underneath the image you should see a link “UPLOAD SCAN”.

5) Click the link and an upload scan window should appear.

6) Click the browse button and find the scan file on your computer and select it.

7) Click on "Upload this Scan" to upload the scan to CPG.

That is it.

Once the scan has been uploaded, it will need to be approved by an Admin or Moderator.

This usually takes a day or two. Once it is approved, it will show up on this page under it's publisher:
http://www.comicspriceguide.com/allcovers.asp

Before you upload any scans please look at the scan guidelines posted above.

If you are scanning and have covers turn out like this, please try rescanning at a higher DPI. Most times this will solve this issue. If you are "borrowing" the scans from another source, then just skip these poor looking scans. We can find better cover scans than this.

But on the "bag" issue...if there is graphics on the bag...and it makes a difference on whether it's "#1" or "#1A"...like with some of the Milestone #1's...take some time and get a good scan on it...
It's not that tough to smooth out the bag and make a proper scan...8D

Some that come bagged with a card. Example:

Just try to smooth out the bag while scanning.
It will help reduce any light glares from the scanner's bulb.

We've been getting many of these types of scans over the past few weeks as members attempt to fill in the gaps in CPG's scans since we removed the GIFs.

Note that I added the pink boarder around the scan to highlight the actual cropping problem.

You'll notice that the above examples all have areas of background showing.  Also both the War Machine and Avengers cover appear crocked.

While these scans are actually pretty good, a minute of cropping and straightening would make them perfect.

All in all, I think that for title such as this, we should hold out on better example.  Especially, since I know these issues can be found in many of our own collections, as well as at a number of locations on the net.

All this being said, I wanted to thank you all for you help.  CPG’s been getting a lot of great scans over the past month.  I’ve thoroughly enjoyed sorting through them all.

need some help I think I made a mistake in photobucket once I post my picture I delete my pictures in photobucket do they have to stay in photobucket the whole time for the picture to stay on the forum.  The seem to be erasing?

I'm speaking about the forum here and not the main CPG page and the cover scans which thuis topic is about.  Uploading cover scans to the main CPG site is a seperate thing and shouldn't require a picture hosting site at all.
