What effect does a missing staple have on an otherwise NM modern (1985) book?

I don't have an answer to the question, but I did have a similar one. If a comic is in very fine or near mint condition aside from one fairly significant flaw(i.e. stamps on the cover/writing, a single large crease across one corner or tear, quarter of a page missing, detatched cover), what effect does that have on the grade? Does it knock it down lower on the scale within the same range or something close, or does it drag it all the way into the good zone?

Probably 9.0 according to OS, as for the details of minor flaws, color breaking creases cost more than non-color breaking creases which can occur up to 8.5. A 1/4" split knocks it down to 6.5 at best.

So, is the cover just detached from one staple of is one staple completely missing from the entire book?

I have a nice SA book thats the same way. Only has the bottom staple and there are no holes on the top where a staple might have been. Its a decent 7.0 but i'm also curious if the missing staple drops the grade. It seems like it would be a little more unforgiving in the grading world than a printers defect but thats just me.

If the book was not produced with the second staple due to a production defect, then it would likely get a blue label with it having only one staple noted on the label. If it is post production, I really don't know. It would probably hurt the grade significantly. Probably would bring it down in the GD range.

I think for pricing purposes Id think Id drop it a cpl grades. So Spazz if its a 7.0 then price it around a 5.0-5.5 especially if your gonna buy it. If your selling it bump it up to an 8.5 and say its RARE due to the one staple.............
