| As long as this message is and without colorful pictures, you have got to read this. I won an eBay item and got this message from the seller with 1000+ FB at 99.6% positive. "Please also note that Ebay just implemented a new rule requiring all sellers to have a Detailed Seller Ratings (DSR) of 4.3 or above in all categories to sell on Ebay so please be aware of this when leaving DSR along with feedback. If you leave a DSR of 4, it will ruin me eventhough a 4 means satisfactory. I know it sounds stupid but Ebay is being unfair to the sellers again. I could use all the help I can get to beat this until Ebay regains their senses so a DSR of 5 would be much appreciated. " I thought "what's he got to be afraid of?" DSR's are those cool stars buyers use to rate a sellers description accuracy, shipping time, commuication, ect. Funny thing, I never even knew DSR's could hurt---so easily. Made me curious. http://pages.ebay.com/help/feedback/detailed-seller-ratings.html That was pretty vague. Okay, DSR's show up after you receive 10. So I went to the community board, and let me tell you if you haven't visited it you should. That board is lit up with P.O'd sellers; rightfully so. DAMN!!! I've been hitting most seller's with 4's cause like a comic books condition, nobody's perfect. And I'm a nice seller too; or so I thought. And worst yet, once you leave that score there's no retraction. That ain't no joke! DSR's were introduce in May 2007 BUT beginning Nov. 1st 2008, if you have an average rating within the last 30 days of 4.3 all of your selling privilages will be cut off---without warning! That means NO SALES. And revoking that bread and butter is not what eBay considers a suspension. So what is it, a vacation? How long will you be kicked off? Once again eBay faintly shows you the fine print...somewhere. Scary that it only takes one buyer to drop your DSR score a few tenths from the top 5 that you were at in the first place. And, hell, the buyer might have thought 4 0ut of 5 stars was a good rating...BEEEEEEEEEEEP! Wrong! There's so much about DSR's to understand that you might have to bring a lunch while reading. BTW, Seller's who sell occassionally with less than 10 DSR's will be evaluated using the DSR's that they've receive during 1 year. That means if a seller hasn't been carefully servicing the few buyer's he's had or even if he has eBay will kick him off selling with out warning if that year totals average 4.3 or less. Surprise! I could go on but experience really is the root of learning. An easy way to understand this DSR is to visit: http://answercenter.ebay.com Search "DSR" to find pages of gripes and answers. Search under "sort by helpfulness" Check your DSR score using your eBay user name or check another members score. Free Tools: www.dsrwatch.com www.home.alltel.net/micrep/feedback.html Learn, discover and be afraid... Good Luck everyone!!!

Oh, so you're one of those guys who gives me a 4-star rating because I didn't hand deliver the book on a silver platter. Just kidding. But really, people annoy people with unjustified star ratings. As a buyer, even if the book is somewhat overgraded and service wasn't world class I always give 5 stars. 4 stars and below are for unsatisfactory transactions in my opinion. Generally, what I find is the lower dollar the transaction the harder it is to please the buyer. In all of my high dollar sales, the buyer has been extremely happy. However I've had a few sales of books that were dirt cheap (less than $10) and the buyer was a pain. And to go with that, having recieved my first negative feedback on a 99 cent transaction. As a rule, buyers want an undergraded book for 10% of guide. If they don't get it, they've been dealt an unforgivable injustice that must be avenged with a star rating beat down.

So what this (and all the other anti-seller crap) means is ebay will eventually become a website where people who wish to buy things can go and look at nothing, because no seller will be good enough to use their site.

Except for those large-volume power sellers. If they sell 1000 comics a day, it would take alot of lower "stars" to affect their DSR. So, they are throwing the "little guy" out on his ***.
Say, if your rating goes below 4.3, how are you supposed to ever get it back above that???

| I thought I had read something too that you couldn't sell on ebay unless you were above a certain rating. I'm not sure how that works for new sellers. The cutoff for the stars is ridiculous. I give 5 stars when the seller was above and beyond expectations, and 4 if everything was as I had expected it to be. I'm not punishing by 4 stars, but apparently according to the new rules I am. Cutoff should be at 4 I think. Pretty soon you'll have to be able to walk on water to sell on eBay.

eBay is a pain in the *** in general, but it's seriously the easiest place to sell stuff online. Plus, what if you have sold stuff, but the buyer has yet to even leave feedback (after a month?)
*sigh* Oh eBay..
