| Amazing Spider-man 238 (1st Hobgoblin) Wizard lists 2 entries: - 238A Lakeside Tattoo - 238B no tattoo with the "B" being 1/2 the value of "A" CPG lists 3 entires: - Newstand - Direct -Price Variant (75 Cents) with the newstand and direct edition equal in value. I recently picked up this issue at a garage sale and am trying to determine which edition I have. There are no tattoos inside but there is a Lakeside tattoo ad. Cover is .60 cents so I know it's not the price variant. Any help would be appreciated.

| wizard is a horrible guide. you can't go by that. i know a direct and newsstand don't sell for any different prices. i don't know the difference in prices with or without the tatooz.

| While at one time Tatooz in your book proved to be desirable, my LCS says the Tatooz are a joke in the value system. Sellers and collectors discovered books like Fantastic Four 252 also contain Tatooz. If their ASM 238 was missing the Tatooz they'd simply slip it out of another book and into their 238. Not really hard to figure that FF 252 is a lot more dispensible than ASM 238... That's my LCS's take and I have to agree.

Sometimes they were removed and it caused damage around the staples. I have two copies and the one without had the tattoo removed not so gently. I think that both the newstand and direct both had the tattoo.

Sure that's a possibility, but the tatoo is attached to the staple wrapped around the spine so I doubt higher grade books had this happen to them. And books that have had staples removed and/or placed back in usually leave signs that the removal occurred.

| I had an extra of that book and sold it on ebay a few years back. I got several emails from concerned potential bidders asking if the tattoo was there......to which I had to investigate because I had never heard of it before...and I found out it originally came with one....but mine didn't have it....and it probably caused mine to sell for less for sure. But I think it's stupid. Probably one of the stupidest things in comic value history of ASM. I wonder how CGC would grade one w/ vs w/o. I'd research that and see what they do. I personally would not care, but so many people are crazy out there. That's why CGC 10.0 books go through the roof. I mean really.....is there a difference between a 10.0 and a 9.9 raw. And is the difference great enough that it should cause the book to quadruple or more in price??? To me, the kind of people who deal in that kind of stuff....are possibly the same people who spent a boat load of money on beanie babies. NUTS.
