Speaking of bad pictures in ebay listings, I won a nice one recently. From the pic. it's hard to see if it's a 1st or 2nd print from the yellowish but it ended up being a 1st print of Lair of Madness as I suspected for $15.

Good score, I think I might have seen that auction, but I think it slipped by me. That's a very tough book.

Thanks BroJ, yep the 1st print seems a very hard find as I think I've only seen 1 copy of the 1st print (has a thick stock white cover and pink guts) for sale since I started collecting almost 2 years ago.

Not a big deal, but I think the price was pretty good, considering what these have gone for in the past when I have tried to bid on one:

Gotta love the Freak Brothers in the crowd on the cover.

I bought a book from that seller that was advertised as a VF-, it was a VG. They took it back no problem.

That's good, though it's a shame about the condition. They seem like a pretty good seller to work with. One time I got a bit frustrated because a package they sent via media mail took about a month to arrive, but it was the Post Office's fault, not theirs. They mailed it right after I paid.

Speaking of recent acquisitions, thanks for posting here because it reminded me.

I recently acquired a good number of undergrounds from Eggs over at the CGC board. He was very generous with the discounts and I was happy with both the price and conditions of the books. Here's what I picked up (sans condition and price):

San Francisco #3
Motor City #2 (3rd)
Bogeyman #1
Girl Fight #1
L.A. Comics #1
Bogeyman #3
Honky Tonk
Yellow Dog #22
Yellow Dog #15
Slow Death #1 (1st)
Captain Guts #1 (1st)
Yellow Dog #24

I also picked up Big *** Comics #1 (5th, I believe), Arcade #1, 2 and 3 and Snatch #2 (6th, I believe) in an earlier previous sale.

Good stuff, Eggs also currently has another sales thread going on at the CGC board if anyone wants to check it out.

ok, better bump this back up, as I just received a bunch of books in the mail the last few days. Here's what I got:

eBay seller kathyg:

San Francisco Comic Book #5, Skull #5, Tales of Toad #3, Rip Off (magazine) #12, Weirdo #1 (1st)

Kathy is an excellent grader, almost undergrades some of the books. The prices are usually pretty good, as well.

eBay seller rickobradford

Bar Wars #2 and #4 (excellent condition and rapid ship, as always! Thanks, Rick!)

eBay seller 1cutural artifacts1

Bridge City Beer Comix #2

Their grading is a little loose, they graded it NM-, I would say more like a VF+. However, still a steal at $36. I also like the "bookchuck" COA that comes with all the undergrounds from this seller.

CGC board-Eggs

High Flyin' Funnies Comix & Stories
No Ducks! #2
Paradise: An Interplanetary Fantasy
Pure Joy Comix #1
Rubber Duck #2
Spaced Out
Thrilling Murder Comics (1st)
White Whore Funnies #1 (2nd print)

Nothing major, but good prices and Eggs is an excellent grader. It was fun buying from your CGC board threads.

hmmm, no replies to my last post, am I boring you guys?

Anyway, I went to the Big Apple Con in NYC on Saturday. It was all last minute, so I really didn't have a lot of time to prepare. I was hoping the Good Dr. might be there as I believe he mentioned he was at Gary Dolgoff's table last year, but I didn't see him. Did you attend the show, Doc? Anyone else?

There were absolutely no underground comix guests, so that was a disappointment. I did manage to find a few dealers with undergrounds. Motor City Comics was there, and I enjoyed rooting through their undergrounds, but the things I could afford, I wasn't interested in and the things I was interested in, I couldn't afford and/or didn't think it was worth it. Personally, I think their stuff is massively overpriced.

I also found another dealer with a nice selection of undergrounds, and these were priced very friendly. I pulled a huge stack out and then had the dealer help me remove them from their bags so I could inspect them and check to verify which printings we were dealing with. I put many of them back, but bought a good sized stack for $60. Here's what I picked up:

The Barn of Fear

Brain Fantasy #2

Fat Freddy's Cat #1 (1st)

Fear and Laughter

Scratchez #1 and #3 (these are pretty tough to come by, if I remember correctly)

Sex and Affection

Tuff S**t Comics

2 (Wilson)

White Lunch Comix

A friend of mine who doesn't collect undergrounds but recently came across some gave me a couple books for free, first printings of Choice Meats #1 and #2.

Recent purchases to arrive in the mail were:

Cherry #17 (1st) from a seller on the CGC board

Tales of Jerry the Stoned Vampire #1, Tooney Loons and Marijuana Melodies (1st) and Twisted Sisters Comics from an eBay seller.

I was there are Gary Dolgoffs table from about 9- 11 on Sat. I was also there Friday morning and Sat night to go to diner with gary. I was bored with the show although I got a Corben item in a 3/$1 bin - the Max Sampler with the Punisher cover by Corben. Nothing else for the old UG collection. Went there to meet friends. Next time you are igoing to NYC, email me in advance and we can hook up. Mostly there to see firends. Met Norm Whitty who is an old time ug dealer and Bonzai. I though of buying the Scratez for the $7 each, but changed my mind. Glad they went to someone I know.
