| Again, let me re-iterate, as long as the book hasn't been damaged, I don't think it likely the grade will change. My original point is #1 that it is possible and #2 they do, in fact, re-inspect (perhaps re-grade was too strong) prior to giving out new labels. If this has changed, that is bad news for all of us.

| Ok, this link should effectively clear up this fiasco of a thread... http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=269039&page=1#Post269039 Keep in mind that question was asked back in 2003 Also, it is quite clear that if subbing for re-holder service to get a new label from an old one, they will not even look at the book they will simply place it in a new holder as long as the old label slab is not damaged. Now, if there's damage to the slab, sure they make sure the book hasn't been damaged but it's not like it take a grader to do that. No disregard meant to anyone who does this at CGC but any monkey could tell if a crac ked or chipped slab has caused damage to the book and obviously this has been their policy for a long time.
  Always looking for Giant-Size Marvels and Extreme High Grade Vampirella's Savage Sword of Conan Magazines needed VF++ or better: 18, 30, 31, 32, 33, 36, 55, 61, 98, 129, 132, 134, 141, 143, 145, 151, 171, 179, 191, 192, 194, 196-211, 215, 216, 217, 218, 221, 222, 223, 224, 226, 227, 228, 229, 235

Interesting, but I have to wonder if that was written prior to when they realized the gravity of the problem they had with the original design of their well and SCS (that does damage to books but doesn't damage the physical appearance of the slab)...
But at least that thread clarifies that with reholder service if there is physical damage (i.e. a crack) to the slab the books are re-inspected and as such, could suffer a lower grade.

kps01 (4/7/2008) P.S. What book is it anyway?Its a Venom #1 (nothing special) BUTTTTT I was told that it is good to get the comic re-slabbed every 7-8 years to get the paper replaced. This comic was graded in 2001 when CGC first opened. I'm in the process of getting all my 2001-2002 books together to send them in for re-slabbing. I'm sorry, but that just sounds like a scam to make a ton more money reslabbing. Funny (or not so funny) story about action figure grading. On the boards over in action figure land, someone posted how they sent in some valuable rare figures mint in mint packages to get graded. They were expected to grade very high, but the person submitting them checked the wrong box on the form, and the figures were ripped out of their packages and graded as LOOSE figures and sent back to the person. OUCH!!!! Thank heavens there is not box to check that says Grade and slab the cover only They would not pay him anything for them either as he filled out the form wrong...... My thoughts were....they should have questioned it and called him to confirm.
