| If you have a "old label" CGC comic and it is a 9.9 (BROWN MODERN GRADE) and want to get it re-slabbed. Will it be placed in a 9.9 "blue label" slab? Do they still use the brown labels? Thanks, Chris,.

Those old Modern labels are normally called "Red", not "Brown", by the way . . .
They are not used anymore, so a book like this would get the new, standard Blue Universal label. However, there's no real guarantee that it will still get a 9.9. After all, it's possible that an edge or corner has been damaged slightly by being shaken or dropped while in the slab. It's very, very likely to get the same grade again. But not 100%, in my understanding.

The re-slabbing is a lot cheaper from what I was told by CGC, they just take it out the old case and place it into a new one. I'm not sure if the old label is required and they add that to. I'll call Monday and find out.

| No, they're going to grade it again, even on reholder service. If it is the still the same grade, it will get the same grade. In general, the maroon labels (what I've always heard them referred to) were more tightly graded than the current blue, so unless damage has occured, you should be fine.

| I just got off the phone with CGC (They are really awesome to talk to) not dick head service reps like normal that just want you off the phone. I was told re-grading and re-slabbing are two totally different things. If it is re-slabbed ($11.00) they jut take the comic out, make sure no corners are damaged. (check for abuse) throw in a new label and paper and seal it shut. The re-slabbing process they do not regrade it. They only open the book to replace the paper.

Grading submission and reholder service are two different things at two different costs. They essentially do re-grade it on reholder. That's what they're doing when the check the corners, etc. As a sidenote, oftime the grade rises on the maroon label books. Not sure I'd count on it with a 9.9 book, but you never know...

kps01 (4/7/2008) P.S. What book is it anyway? Its a Venom #1 (nothing special) BUTTTTT I was told that it is good to get the comic re-slabbed every 7-8 years to get the paper replaced. This comic was graded in 2001 when CGC first opened. I'm in the process of getting all my 2001-2002 books together to send them in for re-slabbing.
