That's new to me. The only Our Gang that I know of is the Little Rascals. What's this Our Gang about? TEX It's the same Hal Roach created it in the early 1920's as "Hal Roach's Rascals" later changed to "Our Gang" and much later (early 50's) retitled as "Little Rascals". MGM licensed "Our Gang" to Dell in the early forties which featured Tom and Jerry, Barney Bear, as well as Our Gang comics until it eventually became Tom and Jerry Comics in the late 40's (???). Nice pick-up colorpit. I love it when you buy stuff.

Walt Kelly wrote better stories than the live action fare - plus the comics are in glorious Four Color!!! Not Walt's best work, but it's the best Our Gang. (my opinion based on the few I've read).

Thanks guys!! I love how I learn something new every time I come here You guys are full of information. Anyone know which came first? Tom & Jerry in Our Gang number 1, or the first Tom & Jerry cartoon??? I guess I mean which was released first? Like lot of old characters.....their first comic appearance isn't always their first "appearance". Like Bugs, Daffy, Popeye, etc whose first appearance was in a book or a newspaper....

Puss Gets the Boot (1940) is the first, but Tom is named Jasper and imdb says Jerry's name was Jinx in the trivia section for The Midnight Snack (1941), but my Hanna-Barbera book says he was unnamed.
On a side note, the early animated Tom looks a lot like his picture on the Our Gang cover.
I found this for your viewing pleasure(isn't the internet great!):

Yup...first T&J cartoon predates the comic by two years... Extra trivia... Created by the Legends Hanna-Barbera who told the tales (that inspired "Itchy & Scratchy") from 1940-1957... The run from 1960-1967 was overseen by the great Gene Deitch (of "Tom Terrific" fame...and father of underground master Kim Deitch) from his studios in Eastern Europe...and distributed by Chuck Jone's Sib Tower 12 Productions... Here's a web site dedicated to the duo... http://www.tomandjerryonline.com/#

Boomerang on Cartoon Network still shows these.
My kids (not even born in the 1900s) absolutely LOVE them! It seems that some things are just timeless...
Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny and Daffy and Road Runner, Droopy... they are still just as funny today as they were when they were made.

Oh please, you couldn't even turn into Bill Bixby.

| Thanks for all the great info guys!!! Yeah, when I was a kid, I could sit and watch Tom & Jerry for hours. I never got tired of that show...and there was never a dull moment. I actually have that first episode on DVD. I have all 3 volumes of T&J on DVD. As well as many others (Pink Panther, Looney Tunes, Droopy, Woody Woodpecker, etc) which I like to watch an episode here and there when I have time. I agree that it's TIMELESS, but as time keeps going by, it appears more and more dated with the technology shown in the cartoons vs. the technology we have today......kids might not relate to some of it. But I think they can enjoy it almost as much as those of us who grew up on it back in the day. There was a time when I had over half of the Our Gang comic run....now I'm back to about 6 or so issues.......working on getting back to where I was. Have a good night!! And thanks again for all the feedback and the classic cartoon!!!!

| Hey guys, I just got back from this guys house I met from Craigslist. He had tons of comics for sale and so I went through his Spidey's and his Hulks and picked up 5 ASM's I needed under number 100......and I got 55ish issues of the HULK that I needed. Also got about 10-15 Punisher comics that I wanted. Everything for 80 bucks. Super nice guy. I'll be sure to go back for more later. I've been around on here.....just haven't had time to scan and post any recent buys. Happy hunting everyone!!!
