And a good response to that: 'Bad writing'.
In my opinion, The Death of Superman was not very well written. Doomsday's a raging beast and Superman couldn't be bothered to think his way into and around the fight. Instead he just jumped into front of Doomsday to try and slow him down and not get to Metropolis, engaging the monster with his fists. He's pretty smart and has a good handful of abilities... and he chose to slug it out...
Also, Marvel vs. DC is the farthest thing form 'good' writing I can think of. The involved parties all got in a room and agreed that Superman and Spider Man couldn't lose, then negotiated the rest. For the love of God, didn't Wolverine beat Lobo in that crossover? Lobo!

I guess I'm the only one here that has read, and understood the books, Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey.
In these books, it goes over Doomsdays powers, and in this it shows that anything that is used against him, he grows a tollerance to it.
Meaning...
Green Lantern (Guy) used his ring, Doomsday can't be hurt by it anymore.
Superman used a sonic gun and Doomsday grew bones over his ears.
Superman used a sword that nearly cut Doomsday in half and he melded back.
Superman used his super-strength, and Doomsday got stronger.
The list goes on.
No matter what you throw at the guy, he just comes back stronger than before.
I'm not trying to say that Hulk sucks, but the Marvel Universe does not have a killing machine like Doomsday. (And I'm sorry, but Batman could take down the Avengers, along with GL, Wonder Woman, and of course the Man Of Steel)
So in the long run, no matter how many punches Hulk throws, Doomsday will just come back.

Wolverine vs. Lobo = Wolverine (even took Lobo's cigar)
Superman vs. Hulk = Superman
Namor vs. Aquaman = Aquaman
Spiderman vs. Superboy = Spiderman
Batman vs. Captain America = Batman
Wonder Woman vs. Storm = Storm
Flash vs. Quicksilver = Flash
Silver Surfer vs. Green Lantern = ?
Thor vs. Captain Marvel = ?

Ok let's straighten one thing out, Doomsday did not kill Superman, Superman gave his life taking out Doomsday, there is a big difference there.
When Superman took out Hulk, Hulk wasn't mad. Get Hulk mad and guess what happens?
Doomsday only get better if he survives, if he doesn't then I doubt there will be much left for improvement.
Hulk takes him out because in the first meeting, Doomsday wont be able to beat him and Hulk wont wait for a second meeting.
Where does he get those wonderful toys!
I have yet begun to surrender.
