Anyone on here ship their comics through media mail?  Last week I shipped out 2 comics media mail and they ended up inspecting the packages and sent them back to me saying they didnt qualify for media mail.  I had never been told before that comic books were not supposed to be sent media mail.  The postman said they had to be sent either first class or printed material.  So I was out $5 on the postage I had used.

Anyone else run into this problem?

actually its more reliable than first class...and they handle the packages better.
I use media mail for books all the time...at buyer request....knocks the price down pretty decent for shipping on thier end.

PEP....there is a weight limit (the books themselves, packaging...it adds up)...i think ive sent up to 3 (Modern,BA,SA) books media mail between 2 peices of cardboard (single wall) with no problems. sounds kinda weird.

I think we had a pretty detailed discussion on this before (old forum?).

Anyway, here's the basic run down on why your comics were sent back....

Books sent via Media Mail cannot contain advertising outside of incidental advertising by the publisher of the book.  The incidental advertising includes things like 'Check out these other titles' and 'Coming Soon' type ads.

Since most comics contain advertisements from companies other than the publisher themselves, they do not qualify.  The incidental means that the primary purpose of the book is NOT to simply advertise publisher products.

One thing that people should know is that trades and graphic novels CAN be sent Media Mail.  That is because they do not contain outside advertising.  If you ever do get a trade or GN back because of an inspection of the package, you should visit the postmaster at the mailing facility to file a complaint.

So, regular comics CANNOT be sent Media Mail.....trades and the like CAN.

I have never had a problem sending Media Mail.

Of course I avoid shipping large orders ion Diamond boxes or long boxes so that helps I guess.

Honestly I think the chances of a problem with pre-paid postage are very small indeed.

(If you have a problem change the post office or mail box you are dropping them in chances are you have some newby PO employee who decided to earn a few brownie points.)

I always ship Media Rate unless requested by the seller... Ive never had any trouble from the post office... it keeps the costs down on both ends... people are more willing to buy when they see me charging $5 to ship books then $10 or $15... I have also sent hundreds of comics at a time this way... when I send in books for trade with mycomicshop.com... it just makes more sense for me to do it.. they give you a shipping allowance but nothing close to the actual costs...

I ship media mail about 95% of the time unless the customer requests and pays otherwise and have never had a lost or damaged parcel in the many years I've been shipping books. That includes comics. I do have a return address that includes the word 'books' so that may be a reason the packages have not been inspected. I also always ship with "delivery confirmation".

The postal employee told me NO comic books at all, no matter if its 1 or 20 can be shipped media mail.  The printed material pricing was just a few cents less than media mail but I'm not sure if I'll try to send another comic order again through that post office.  I should have kept the letter they sent me on it but I already threw it away.
