Well this will be a very noobish question....and comming from a guy that 1 out of 10 times cant see the forest for the trees...ill try to ask in a non confusing way.

Tonight i was just looking around doing some research for my personal database...and i was wondering...is there anyway to find print runs on books from years past...does anyone do this?
Like say from the mid 90s or later...(the only reason i am using the 90s as a reference is because thats when the speculator market grew to a frenzy and this info might be on hand somewhere...)

Reason asking...i was looking up information on the dreaded "Clone Saga" and saw that the Scarlet Spider #1A Newstand Variants (Amazing,Web,Spectacular) were short in supply....and did not go out to that many retailers....
so it got me thinking that i would like to have this info for my database...but low and behold...i cant find anyplace that isnt just current market #s...or they didnt have anything prior to 2000...

Since these are Cover Variants...and if they were indeed in short supply...i would just like to find info about this to add to my database as a side note...(like to have as much info as possible for my collection...so i dont look like a boob as i did in my uneducated days of collecting....sigh...ASM #300 for a Spawn #1.....DAMN IT! (i was 13..and it looked like a book my parents would say no too...so i had to have it!)......)

Before its brought up about Newstand vs Direct Edition, and "is it a complete collection without them" disscussion....the only reason i have these is because i picked them up out of a .50 bin in really nice condition....but i really dont care about the monitary value....
im just looking for information about a print run...as it is (even though its just a cosmetic tone of color) a Cover Variant that maybe had a limited print run....

Unfortunately, Kree, there is no one source.

OPG has a very limited # of print runs listed, some indies/undergrounds may actually have the print run in the indicia.  CBG probably has the most # of print runs listed that I have seen.

Other than that, sales #'s may sometimes be better than an actual print run, expecially when you are talking about older books that were cut up or destroyed when they weren't sold.

So, the answer is no, for the vast majority of books, we will never know.

Thats actually pretty sad.
For a Hobby that centers around knowing everything there is to know about a certain title, book and even certain companies....you cant just jump on and find out about the Print Runs of those holy..or not so holy grails in your collection......

Thanks for the input on that Argus...kinda bummed now ...I was hoping to add some more info...

Well at least for the Spider-Man and Xmen #1 i can just put too many....I know that one

You'd think that each company would keep those statistics, maybe they do but havent released them?

“I don’t do this for the Commander in Chief.  I do this for my country, and I will continue to do so.”

"They are blind to history's clear lesson, for history teaches with unmistakable emphasis that appeasement but begets new and bloodier war. It points to no single instance where this end has justified that means, where appeasement has led to more than a sham peace. Like blackmail, it lays the basis for new and successively greater demands until, as in blackmail, violence becomes the only other alternative."

"Why," my soldiers asked of me, "surrender military advantages to an enemy in the field?" I could not answer.

You'd be surprised at what companies don't keep.....

Kree....the spidey and x-men relaunches were in the millions...BTW

It is usually easier to find sales information on issues (just check out the updates in the New Issues forums)...you can often find them archived around the internet.  While not giving a full print run, the sales themselves can at least give you some idea.  Unfortunately, they are not broken down by variants...but what can you do?

On occasion you will see print runs in the issue notes in our database.  That's when we have some sort of confirmation.  If you do happen to find any for key issues and other noteworthies, definitely let me know!  I can add it to our description, at least.

As others have said there is no complete resource.

'The Standard Comics Catalog' is the best print resource I know.

The following link is the best web resource I know.
