My mom grew up in guam in the 50's so they didn't speak english.  So her mom used to get comic books from the military base and would have all her sisters and brothers read them to learn english.  they were very poor so they couldn't really afford to many learning books. But since they were poor once they all read and learned how to read the comic instead of saving them they would use it as toilet paper because they couldn't afford TP.

Of course now she is well off and buys Tp but the joke when they come to visit is she isn't allowed near my comic room.

Do you have any of these type of stories?

Jesse James

ps when this story is told every bodys laughs I just cringe and just think of all the money that just was flushed down the toilet (literary).

Sherlock's got a great one about an Incredible Hulk 181, his mom, and the fireplace.

Hurts to imagine that that X-Men #1-5 she wiped and flushed down a toilet or something could pay for her kids college now.

I think I covered all the pertinent details, just not the deep emotional scarring that went with it.
