He had an underground collection that aficionados drooled over.

I won't try to describe what would happen if my wife attempted to force me to choose between my comics and my marriage. But then, I'm not in a happy marriage anyway. But if I was in a dream marriage, I would think that my wife would never force me to make that choice, and if she did, I would realize that I wasn't in a dream marriage (or even a decent one) to begin with.

If someones wife would actually be cold hearted enough to make her husband sell his comic books......then it just wasn't meant to be. I would choose the comics. I really would.

----------------

Someone: "So I hear you collect Spider-Man comics."
Me: "Yep."
Someone: "Well I happen to have Amazing Spider-Man #92"
Me: "I have #1"
Someone: ".......oh."

It's those little victories that make life worth living.

Exactly how I look at it.

The Lisa Marie story is bogus and the real story has been rehashed repeatedly.

He had a party at his house and someone stole his Action #1 and I believe a Tec 27 that he had framed on the wall. Because of this he completely freaked out and sold his collection.

He told this same story to Leno on the Tonight Show.

From what I understand though, he kept a lot of bronze age books.

I tried my best to dig it up, but I read a interview from him when this story came up before that was the most recent interview at the time and he brought her up as the reason.

Interesting that initially NO reason was given, than the first interview he said it was because of thieves, in a later interview he said he sold them because he had his time with it and was downsizing and didn't want to be Citizen Kane and was moving on with ZERO mention of the theft and in a even later interview brought her up. He has said in the past he wasn't going to talk about the marriage and no man is going to admit to being emasculated by the woman they are with. All I know is the story keeps changing depending on who asks him. Creating a cover story is a common response for men who are whipped.

One quote from IMDb, trying to find the original article:

Monday, 2 Dec 2002

Nicolas Cage was forced into selling his vintage cars and classic comic book collection by wife Lisa Marie Presley - which is why the star has called it a day on their marriage. The daughter of Elvis also made the Gone In Sixty Seconds star rent out his bachelor pad, but he finally decided he couldn't put up with her tiresome demands. Cage says, "I refuse to be blackmailed. I'm choosing independence. I ditched all that stuff to please her - but she wants more. I should have stood up to her from the start. She didn't just want me, she wanted my soul."

I almost feel bad for him.

She made him sell his car collection also. I was trying to find the interview where he was talking about it, I read it a couple of years ago. He earlier had said he sold it because he had some books stolen and didn't want the temptation there for others so he sold them all. Of course it was all over about her demands so it was an obvious attempt to try to keep his "manhood". The interview I read later pretty much confirmed him being forced or she would walk.

Urrrgggh...It sounds like she'd be a pest to live with overal..And most likely would be pushy in other situations as well not just with the collection of cars and comics.

People should be allowed to enjoy their collections....Heck he could have his collect locked away were she'd never have to see them...though he shouldn't have to do that either.
