...and what about the Avengers #17 when you look at the back? Is that what they call spine roll? It seems that it was compressed at one point with the pages above the staples wrapping around the spine so that you see the cover as part of the back. Should I leave that or should I try to re-flatten it like it should be?...I'm guessing the former.
...I'm glad you guys love this so much! It's catchy...

Yes, that is Spine Roll. The fact that it is straight (uniformly rolled), it still has Centration. If, for example, it had Spine Roll at the top and not at the bottom (kind of a twist) - that would be Spine Roll with Miswrap.

I also would give Avengers 17 a 4.5 (above Very Good) due to the Spine Roll, Staining, Edge Wear, Spine Creases, Corner Blunting... None of which are VERY bad individually (except spine roll), but it is more like it has a lot of small things wrong with it.
I am ASSUMING pages are Off-White/Cream, and the cover is dull (not glossy).

Overall, it looks very nice!

Um... as gently and tactfully as I can... Your goal is to make money, but you're asking other people to do your work for you?
If you're going to put energy into selling comic books, one of the first things you'll have to do is learn something about grading your books.I recommend that you study up at this page, to get up to speed: http://comicspriceguide.com/p-conditions.aspx

Very quickly, this book looks like a 2.0 at best; if you worked really hard at it, you might get 5.00 or 6.00 for it. Maybe even 7.00. Or a dollar or two, if you take it to a comic book store. And the other 99 peices? You're on your own.

Good luck with it...

WHY IS THIS CHIMP CRYING?

You misunderstand me, to be frank i wouldnt buy art because it doesnt interest me and so would be wasted on me. The comics i have are just sat wasting away and although i have no need or desire for them i qually dont want to sell them for peanuts to someone who will just sell them again and make a fortune. I dont want to seem like i just want to make money as if i had any family member interested in this kinda thing i would gladly give them as a gift. . I appologise if i misunderstood the posting "Grade my comic", as i believed it was somewhere for someone to go to get help on how to grade their comic.....

Here is a Captain Kidd from 1949. It's actually not in bad shape for a 60-year-old comic - except for that blue stuff (whatever it is!) on the front cover. I really don't know how to assign a grade to this one.

I Have no idea about the blue stuff. It is smooth or can you feel it?
It does look pretty good besides that. It's hard to tell from it NOT being a scan, but the edges seem to be nice. No chunks out or rips. A scan is needed for a good grading estimate. (Ballpark for now is 3.5)

It Is A Sixty Year Old Comic. Nice!
Truman was President. Elvis was 14 years old. We only had 48 states. A stamp cost 3 cents. The Dodgers were in Brooklyn.
And that comic is still around and very readable.
I would love to read that comic! (I'll bet they say "booty" a lot. Heh heh.)

I think the blue stuff is an example of "overspray", a type of printing error.
The spray should only be on the top edge of the comic, the guys at the warehouse can look at a stack ofcomics and say "that stack is blue", "that stack is black", or whatever...

Don't know why they wanted to be able to say that, I do know most newsprint comics have "spray" on the top edge.

Hello. In a recent bout of nastalga I pulled out my old comic books. I'd started collecting them years ago but quit. Now I'm interested in it again. I thought I'd introduce myself, and ask if I might get your opinions on the grade of some comic books. I likely have a higher opinion of what shape they are in than they really are. I'd greatly appreciate your help.

Welcome to the boards. Normally I would give it a 9.2 but the colored BC really shows the normal wear which might drop it down into the 8.0 range.

Thank you for the welcome and the response. I was thinking between 8.5 and 9.0, but this is really the first time I've looked at them and tried to judge them, so I kinda wanted to get some advice on a couple so I can gauge what grade they'd be in the real world rather than what I think they should be worth.

If you wouldn't mind, here's a couple, the first I know will grade lower. It has what looks like some food dropped on the bottom page which has bled through onto about four pages. It's one I found in some junk my father had collected and was about to throw out along with some vampirella issues that are not in much better shape except without food stains. I'm thinking it would be a 2.0.

Then there's this Detective comics which I would think would be between a 7.5 to a 8.5. I do appreciate your time. And I'll quit bugging you after this. I just wanted to get some idea as to how far off I am with my own grading.
