I am happy to hear that as I have some more. This was not my collection so getting them graded to sell has helped a great deal.

I have the entire Metal Men run plus three of the Showcase.

I scanned some of them from the bagged books. If I can get an idea at least what these are I can think I can estimate what the rest of the books will grade at.

I also wanted to know if printing on the back of the book effects the grade? It seems a young man wrote his name on the back of a couple books at the bottom.  I put an example at the end.

Thanks again for all our help with these.

The Showcase

Various Metal Men books

Writting on back.

Thanks again for all your help!

Here are my thoughts on your last batch of comics, for what they're worth...

MM 38: 3.0 or 3.5 -- spine is obviously the biggest problem. If it's real tight at the staples, 3.5 might be a fit...
MM 39: 4.0 -- spine is good enough for a 4.5, but you also have problems along the right-hand edge.
MM 40: 4.5. If the corners are real weak, make it 4.0 .
(Rain Of The Missile Men) : Looks like a good 4.5.
MM 22: 5.0 .
MM 33: 4.5 or 5.0
MM 45, 56: 6.0 . Stress marks at the spine. Just misses a 6.5 by a little, IMO

Anybody else want to stick their eyes on these?

My turn, my turn! I'm going to put one under the spotlight now, see what y'all think of it. Somewhere in the 4.5 - 6.0 range, I'm thinking it's a 5.0 ...

Salient points:

1) Fading
2) writing + erasing + color loss just to the left of Plas'es head.
3) Spine's in the F or VF range, but the corners aren't that strong, and with the other flaws...
4) Two significant creases on back cover, not really visible in scan.

What do y'all think?

Pmadreenter's Plastic Man #8 definitely a 5.0. Way to go!

Both of those are easely 6.0 + but to get more accurate they need to be life size scans.

End of Line....

Just found some old comics for what I believe is a good price, but I am new to trying to grade comics and figure out their value.

I have been learning about the grading system, but really have no idea what I am doing. If you could help me out with these comics and let me know what you think the grade would be for each, that would be awesome!

Thanks!

It might be less confusing if you deleted the second post, and used the EDIT button to go back into the first post and put all your scans in the correct order. I'm afraid my brain would explode if I were to try back and forth. Nice comics, though -- off the top of my head (swift glance), I think they'll come out something like this:

Avengers 17 - 4.5. It would be close to a 5.0 or a 5.5, but the bottom edge is a little rough.

Avengers 32 - 5.5. Maybe 6.0. The spine is almost right for a 6.0, but there seem to be minor problems at two corners

Daredevil 25 - 4.5. Everything else is nice, but that creasing...

Hulk 200 - 7.0. Would be better, but top corners...

Avengers 31 - 6.5. Biggest problem is the top staple, can't be sure what's going on there... Book's slightly miscut, but that shouldn't be a problem in this grade...

That's just my two cents' worth; the next person to come along will fine-tune my rough answers and give you grades you can trust. (But I sure do value the opportunity to practice.)

Thanks pmadreenter. You're input is appreciated. I fixed & consolidated my posts as well.

Anyone else feel free to give me their guess or (even better) educated expert opinion. I live to learn.

...and what about the Avengers #17 when you look at the back? Is that what they call spine roll? It seems that it was compressed at one point with the pages above the staples wrapping around the spine so that you see the cover as part of the back. Should I leave that or should I try to re-flatten it like it should be?...I'm guessing the former.

...I'm glad you guys love this so much! It's catchy...
