Adding my collection to the CPG (holy cow this is going to take a while...) I've noticed that sometimes
there is a diamond variant, and sometimes not, even for issues that have one. E.g., my copy of Amazing
Spider-man #185 has a diamond price, but there isn't a listing for one, yet there are lots of issues before
and after this that DO have a diamond variant listed. Is this something I should add to the DB (can users add
to the DB?) or is there some reason that they are listed the way they are.

Thanks!

You will find a lot of those type of variants (for lack of a better term) in the eighties comics because that was the true advent of the Comic Shop (direct) over the regular 7-11 (newstand) versions. They used to have more meaning than they do now and may not really be considered a true variant. But we do not distinquish those in the DB.

Yeah, that's why I put 'variant' in quotes. I didn't really think of them
as different enough to matter, but I was just confused as to why the DB
listed them sometimes and not others.

Thanks!

The only time they are listed is when the price is different like Star Wars #1 30 cent and 35 cent variants, those are considered true variants.

When it is a price variant, the DB lists it as 'Price Variant' and not 'Diamond Variant'. See, for example,
Amazing Spider-Man 168. 168A is listed as a 'Diamond Variant' but both are 30c.

I honestly don't know why they are listed, perhaps it is a holdover from back when. Maybe Coffeeman or Shadow have an explanation as it is probably one of their pics anyway. Guys?
