clyfft (4/7/2008) However, if it is something that can't really be detected (unless it is done horribly wrong) then I don't see why it should be mandatory to tell someone.The same could be said about trimming, which is unacceptable to most collectors. I'm for disclosure simply because what if in 10 years books that have been professionally pressed actually deteriorate faster or have some other long term effect we don't know about yet? If I buy a book knowing it is pressed, the decision is mine (with any potential future risks).

very interesting responses fellas. i dont think i have a problem with pressing a book. i would buy one. would like to know but i dont think it would influence my decision much. if it has been restored or trimmed then that affects my decision.

Pressing has been around much longer than 10 years already. Not to mention that if you collect very high grade CGC'ed golden age books or even extreme high grade CGC'ed silver then odds are they've been pressed.
  Always looking for Giant-Size Marvels and Extreme High Grade Vampirella's Savage Sword of Conan Magazines needed VF++ or better: 18, 30, 31, 32, 33, 36, 55, 61, 98, 129, 132, 134, 141, 143, 145, 151, 171, 179, 191, 192, 194, 196-211, 215, 216, 217, 218, 221, 222, 223, 224, 226, 227, 228, 229, 235

To me, outside of the obvious cosmetic benefits, (professional) pressing is more of a preservation process. Whereas, trimming, etc. is not.

So how can you tell by looking at a book if it's been pressed? Does it show some type of sign? Thanks Check the creases...a good sharp crease, means they used a nice hot steam iron...
