I can see where the would be offensive..

The last time I actually saw a comic (in any form) for sell in walmart was when Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was released.

But clearly unless any of us live in a hispanic (WALMART) community, none of us will ever be exposed to this character.

But I can see where african-americans (politically correct) would be offended by this comic. BUT is was not meant to be purchased by them... so I can see where it should be allowed to be sold.

As I worked for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for over 10 years, I can tell you that I am not at all surprised that the comic was pulled.

When Maxim first started being put onto Wal-Mart's magazine racks, about every 3 issues had to be pulled because some customers thought they were too graphic.

Remember Sheryl Crow's album (the second one, I think) was never sold at Wal-Mart because one of the lines of a song mentioned 'a gun they bought at Wal-Mart Discount Stores.'

Someone caught that before the merchandise hit the stores.

Someone SHOULD have caught that comic before it hit the shelves.  Someone in Bentonville should have thought...hmmm....this may not go over well with the American public.

Do I think it is wrong to sell the comic? No......

Do I think Wal-Mart was smart in pulling it? Absolutely.  They have enough controversy as it is.

Anyone actually read the whole article? The character isn't even black. He's Cuban. I can still see how some would be offended, but it makes the fact that African-American "community activists" are  calling for its removal kind of bizzare.

The "Mexican" public by in large don't have a problem with it, because they don't see any harm...but by Mexican, I'm talking about the Country of Mexico, and its population who have grown up with this character.

The Hispanic community that reside in America, though..well that's another story. They may have a problem as they share their neighborhoods with people of different races and for the most part can and should understand where this can see as offensive to the African-American community. Whether he is cuban/mexican...or not...the point is it is a characature that has not changed or evoled since the 40's. Not only is it a point as to how the society refuses to move into the future, but still see's other people and cultures.

Sad, isn't it...

I agree with Argus..Wally world was right in pulling it..but to make a big deal..What..are they going to get a country like Mexico to change their views on things? hardly...by shouting and screaming at Wal-Mart? no..I don't think so..

And Ol'd Quanell X just found a way to get his 15 minutes of fame..

Sad..isn't it..

Honestly, I can understand how the black community would take offense, but wouldn't it be safe to say that EVERY cartoon-y character exaggerates some sort of stereotype?

Anime and Manga stereotypes white people by having big bugged-out eyes with pasty-white flesh. And I am still trying to figure out why in the Simpsons all races are "chromatically correct" EXCEPT white people. Why are they colored yellow?

The only characters that are drawn "accurately" are those from "King of the Hill"

I agree, theres a difference between being blatantly offensive and people being to damn sensitive about everything.  If you travel to any other country in the world you'll see things 10x worse then this on a regular basis.  It's time people stop being so overly sensitive about everything, and learn to just focus on things that are actually worth attention.
