I'd love to hear what people have chosen to use for storing their comics. Are there standard practices that everyone follows? I've just recently pulled my comics (maybe thousands of them) out of my parents' attic and surprisingly they're mostly in great shape. I'd like to take care of them, work out a good storage solution, all that good stuff. So what do y'all do? Is mylar the move? For all comics? What about those Mylite2s I've seen at comic supply dot com? I've pulled out my Flash comics first 'cuz they're my favorites, and I went ahead and bought some of those Mylite2s and fullbacks for the silver age ones. Is that a good move, or is it overkill? What about boxes and stuff?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I bag and board nearly every comic that I own....My bags and boards are from UltraPro...I haven't invested in any Mylers yet...I've got 5 because I was given some...But to tell you the truth they confuse me so I haven't really delved into that side of comic preservation.

You did exactly what I do Speedy. Mylite 2s and Fullbacks is the best way to go in my opinion for protection and display. I use Mylite 2s and Fullbacks for SA books in my personal collection and for books I take to shows to sell. For my personal collection I have also been putting two sheets of Microchamber paper in each book since they are for my collection and need long term preservation.

They're definitely great for display. Really clear and shiny, they make my Very Goods look like Fines!

What's Microchamber paper? Is that a comic book-specific thing?

No, not comic specific. It is used to keep a neutral pH factor by absorbing acids and contaminents in the area. It is used in comics, behind photographs, in books...pretty much any paper products. Basically, Microchamber paper stops or slows down the process of paper degradation (aka pages becoming brittle and turning to dust).

Most of my golden age books are in Mylars and with the size it takes a magazine box to store them.

I haven't bought Mylite2's yet but have been planning on it for some time as all of my other books are just in bags and boards.

I tend to use the cheapest bags available for show stock books ($1 and $2 specifically) and for my own books I use 3 mil thickness silver age size.

I use Mylar 2's with halfs for all my books and put moderns 2 to a bag.  My nicer stuff (not much) gets a fullback.

Like Ringfinger, I use mylite 2's w/ half backs.  I also use microchamber paper, but 2 sheets for higher dollar comics, one for others.

For the bulk of my collection, I use silver size polys and boards.  Decent protection for lower value books.  I get 100 boards and 100 bags for $12.00 at my LCS.  For mylars I use comicsupply.com.
