I began this thread to give myself and others, who had no other source of information to go on, a place to track sales of Dime Press #4. I believe there's now enough awareness among collectors, about this book, that they can understand it's origin, it's significance, it's scarcity and the market demand it carries. At this point (in this thread) collectors can also surmise the most common cosmetic defects to be aware of when grading Dime Press #4. So after months of tracking auctions and searching internet sales for DIME PRESS #4, I'm giving this thread over to anyone wishing to continue documenting it's on going realized values with item location, unbias proof, unbias description/ grading and item number with date of sale.

For myself, I will continue watching the future sales of Dime Press #4 and less vigilantly post them here.

Here's to Dime Press #4: Hellboy in the carnation Mignola designed for his Dark Horse series'.

I consider this book the first app of Hellboy, and I think it's one of the hardest first appearance to find of the modern era. However prices are dropped strongly in the last three months, because the movie hype faded and because people who has the comic put their copies in the market looking for a benefit. Higher supply, steady demand made price go down. On the other side, Hellboy is a popular character, and is a safe bet thinking he'll be popular in the future; my advice, and this is what I'll do with my copies, is to wait until Hellboy 3 arrives...According to Mignola, he always intended it as a thilogy, and the third movie will be the end of the project.

DP 4 is a book without an established value. A 9.6 copy sold few days ago for $1200 and raw copies are selling better than a couple of months ago.

I'll try to post some link tonight

hi guys maybe someone here can help clear up for me the appearance order ... heres what i have so far:

1991 August - Salt Lake City Comic Con Program (Hellboy in name only)

1993 May - Dime Press #4 - First Hellboy Cover - 2,000 copies
1993 - Freedonia Funnyworks Card - 1,200 copies - (No Jacket yet or Gun or Gun holster on belt)
1993 - Promotion Ad - Hellboy Print has Hellboy standing in front of a circle wearing a jacket - This is first Hellboy wearing his jacket
1993 August - San Diego Comic Con Comics 2 - First Hellboy Story (Black and White)
1993 December - John Byrne's Next Men #21 - First Nationally Available and also Color Story

Does anyone know the dates when the Freedonia card and the Hellboy Jacket print came out? they both have 1993 signed on them next to Mignolas name.

i only placed them in the above order because of guessing ... my assumptions are that the very first true image of hellboy is Dime press 4 cover because Mike Mignola was quoted saying so, then Freedonia card, then Promotional ad because he has a jacket on for first time and the two before do not have a jacket, then San Diego Comic Con Comics #2

My hypothesis is that the Freedonia card possibly predates Dime Press #4
because hellboy has the BPRD logo on his chest in DimePress and not in Freedonia

so does anyone know the dates for the Freedonia or the Promotional Print ?
