| Anyone get a chance to read #48? I tell you, I was completely bummed out after reading it, just when I think they cant possibly do anything else to the characters. Outstanding series but a sad/horrible issue.

I do this for my country, and I will continue to do so.” "They are blind to history's clear lesson, for history teaches with unmistakable emphasis that appeasement but begets new and bloodier war. It points to no single instance where this end has justified that means, where appeasement has led to more than a sham peace. Like blackmail, it lays the basis for new and successively greater demands until, as in blackmail, violence becomes the only other alternative." "Why," my soldiers asked of me, "surrender military advantages to an enemy in the field?" I could not answer. - Gen Douglas MacArthur

****SPOILERS BE BELOW****
I know what you mean... definitely a downer of an issue.
However, I am extremely happy that the Governor is finally out of the picture... or at least he better be. I really, really hated that character and felt that Kirkman kept him around far too long.
Still though... very sad.

Man, just read it. Unbelievable. Don't even know what to say...
Although, i am happy the prison is gone, or so it seems like. This book needs to move on away from that. Just seemed to be standing still because of it. Excited to see where it goes...
anyways, guess we'll find out next month..

| You're right. great issue, but a major downer.I am excited to see though where the story is going to go from here. Although I've enjoyed pretty much every issue, it has become a little stagnant.

ZombiesAteMyBrain (4/4/2008) You're right. great issue, but a major downer.I am excited to see though where the story is going to go from here. Although I've enjoyed pretty much every issue, it has become a little stagnant.I'm wondering if maybe sales might have slipped somewhat since they had been in the prison for so long now and they decided to really shake things up? Anyone have any guesses on what might be coming next?

| SPOILERS! BTW, with the amount of characters I think I lost track maybe. Who's left? I just realized that I think Carl and Rick are it. Is there anyone else?

<----- PARTIAL SPOILERS for those who haven't started reading yet --------->
I kinda dropped off shortly after the Hershel's daughters were beheaded by Psycho Thomas and he was basically "fed" to the neighbors. I found the first 2 trades engrossing and I loved them, but it seems like Kirkman has taken a page out of Cormac McCarthy's bleak and at times brutal (albeit interesting) writing style. After catching up, I totally concur with everyone saying it is tragic and very sad, but I love the direction it has taken. I like the fact that they have covered the angle of other (psychotic) survivors being the more worrisome threat. I had George R.R. Martin flashbacks when Ty gets beheaded and the final battle where the governor coup de graces half the survivors. With the slate being "wiped" the horizon looks dark, but very interesting and I can't wait to see what happens with the story. And the upcoming cover where Rick's face is concealed by shadow and he is being led by Carl doesn't bode well, but we'll see what happens.
Rick, Carl, Glenn, Maggie, Sophia, Billy, and Ben are all (supposedly for the latter 5) still alive. Rick and Carl obviously are left after the battle, but the fate of the others is still up in the air after they fled the prison in the RV. Andrea and Michonne are the 2 I couldn't pin down as dead or alive. Oh well, the next issue can't arrive soon enough.

I think Michonne is still out there, not sure about Andrea (I hope so). Issue 48 really got to me, it made me realize how attached to these characters I'd gotten. Totally blew my mind.
As for the Governor, I was a bit letdown. Anybody else feel like that was sorta anti-climactic? I was giddy awaiting what Kirkman had in store for the guy's downfall...and that was it? Unless he's going to be zombie Governor, but I'm thinking those biters didn't leave much of him to get back up and walk around.
Can't wait to see where this book is going now.
