| depends. if you do he might want to bid that price to get it or.... he might not and since he doesn't bid others won't bid and it wont get the reserve price. if you don't tell him he might bid his max and the reserve might or might not get met or.... he might think since you didn't give him an answer it is a really high reserve.

| If I tell him the reserve price and I put a bid that high, I would be satisfied.

| I think you should tell him...if he bids your price and your happy then all is well...if not, there are still others watching (and more to come, so be patient)...if you do not sell it at a price you are happy with, again no loss. Hold it and try again next time. Good Luck.

What's the point of having a reserve if you're just going to reveal it?...I say put it right in your auction description or don't tell at all...D

The object of the reserve is make sure you get your value out of it, but also allows you leeway to work with a bidder who may be close enough to satisfy your needs. In no way does it need to be or should be a secret, it is merely your opinion of what you think the item is worth to you. Revealing it does not change it, and allows people to understand what you value it at and then make a decision whether to bid or not. I do not understand sellers who won't reveal their reserves, there is absolutely no value in that.

Then why not just start it at your reserve price?...IMO there really is no point in having folks bid below your reserve. I almost never use it, and it's pretty expensive when it comes to listing fees...D

Perfectly stated Joker. No reason a reserve should be a secret, ebay needs no mysteries. As for why a seller might want to use a reserve price, I think that a lot of bidders are turned off by high starting prices. I know I am. I suppose it's not too logical, but maybe human nature?
