Hello brothers,
I took a little reading time for my self today and I got through some comics I'd like to tell ya'll about.
VERTGO:
1. New Deadwardians - The comic has clean artwork and a pretty interesting storyline. Yes there are zombies. Yes there are vampires (The Young). Yes there are humans. But I'm seeing some type of social commentary coming out o f this - maybe a commentary on classism. All three species co-exist in a tense way but there is a strata there. Also, our very likeable protagonist, George Tuttle, is a DCI of Scotland Yard.
Think an undead Sherlock Holmes. Nice.
2. Saucer Country - Nice artwork that lends itself well to the telling of the story. Again, interesting, in a "where-the-heck-is-this-going" sort of way. Arcadia Almorado, divorcee and grandchild of illegal immigrants, is making a bid for the presidency of the US of A, but either she's going crazy or she's the only one who knows that we're being invaded by aliens. Which is it? And not the type that come from other countries on this planet either. It would make an excellent TV show.
The main character is very likeable and her ex-husband evokes lots of pity. I love books that make me feel.
3. Dominique Laveau: Voodoo Child - This comic takes place in New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina. Here, ghosts, vampires, voodoo spirits and loups-garous live in a tense peace. The Voodoo Queens rule all, but when one is murdered, Dominique Laveau, a grad student at Tulane, is hunted by the last of the Queen's warriors that remain alive - he thinks that she did the deed. Will Dominique stay alive long enough to find out who the killer is and who she really is?
This book was atmospheric, a fun, riveting story and nice artwork with plenty of action. I definitely dig Dominique. This book definitely has that New Orleans voodoo feel to it.
STAN LEE COMICS:
1. When stan Lee writes a comic, I always at least buy the first issue. Call it a weakness for Silver Age goodness in modern (post-modern?) comics.
Stan serves it up in Mighty 7.
In a partnership with Stan Lee and Archie Comics, Stan tells us the story the Star Marshals, the winged Asoara and super strong Vallor, who are tracking rogue Star Marshal, Blastok, who shoots lasers from his hands. Also we are introduced to the super fast Mercuria, Ovalax (tthink LSH's Bouncing Boy), the telekinetic Telepan; and his brother, the size-changing Faidout. And mayhem ensues.
There's action.
Unrequited love.
Betrayal and...
STAN LEE! He's inside the story! An actual part of the action!
Soooo...if you like Stan Lee Silver Age-y goodness, you're in for a treat. If you want action, you're in luck. If you want fun, explosive artwork, go for it! If you want a detailed, intricate, complex story, you're gonna be severely disappointed.
I'm not. I'd buy comics like this every month. FUN!!
Well, that's it. ENJOY!!!

Yessir,
You should NOT have to make life decisions in a comic book store.
