I only read about 10 titles a month, and all of them indy.

I am not saying DC is better than Marvel, just that I have not been impressed by Marvel's books for quite a while.

I have not been impressed with the few DC titles I have read, either.

Granted, I may not have picked up what others may have considered the best each publisher has to offer.  I do think that indy's have a higher ratio of good titles to the total # they put out than the 'big 2'.

No blanket 'A is better than B, because B just sucks' statemebt was intended, Havok.  Just opinions on Marvel's current offerings....totally independent of what anyone else is doing.

I have always been a Marvel fan and stay true to Marvel. Civil War event is what got me back into comics. I think Marvel is trying to take chances and shake things up in their universe. However, as much as people want change they don't like it when it happens. It's human Nature.

I enjoy reading Captain America, Avengers, Uncanny X-Men, Twelve, She-Hulk and Daredevil.

Okay, soooooo most of you out there seem to be of the same frame of mind....  but what I was really looking for is for some one to take the side of marvel and start an open debate..... is marvel so far gone that there is no defense?  C'mon you marvelites tell me why.

I am just going to look for runs on eBay to keep my collection going, I'd rather pay 50 cents or less per copy than $3.

I agree with this... I wouldnt put them in you pull list but try to get runs for cheap on ebay and at cons... I still pull ASM, Captain America, Secret Invasion but Im backlogged in reading the moderns.. spending more time on reading complete series back issues I have...

What defense can one really offer here CK? I've had my issues with certain Marvel stories, artist changes, event overloads; etc. also.

Though I'm not buying as many Marvel books as I used to, I can say this:

Did you or anyone give a flying Hell about the big three of the Avengers 2 or 3 years ago? Were you so madly in love with MJ yourself that the lack of her in ASM simpy drives you mad? Did you lose track in the count the mutant game?

I'm not preaching here; I've lost interest, miss the redhead, and lost count too. My point to this is that you need to look back and absorb what Marvel was between (oh let's say) '99 to the present. Captain America, Iron Man, Thor... these were washed up characters in the hayday of '90's crapola. But as of late, each of these characters has returned to prominense; to the top of the mountain so to speak. The writing on all three books are simply fantastic and the art teams compliment the words well. Though Brand New Day may have ruined Spidey for some (me included), one has to admire the risk Marvel made by taking their cash-cow and massively altering his world. Sure the verdict is still out and it could backfire, but look at DC and their staples: Superman, Batman, Flash... do these characters ever evolve? Are they ever a part of 'the real world'? No, not at all. Now, the X-Men: the unstopable machine that sells like no other... since morrison, the franchise has never been right, but it's on an upword slope again. Good art teams, different directions. It's change and change is eXciting.

The one draw back to all the good titles (Daredevil, Punisher, Incredible Herc, Mighty Avengers...) is the dreaded event. They're costly and excessive... but you'll have that in the bigger comics companies and it's a matter of weeding out the garbage to find the good parts. Me? I read threads filled with spoilers to fill in the places i refuse to buy. It's cheap and it keeps me in the loop.

Simply put, if can read Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man and NOT think it's the best it's been in years or feel hooked again, then you were never a fan of them anyway. If a book like The Thunderbolts or Punisher doesn't peak your interest, then you're maybe too accustomed to the older fashon of DC storytelling (nothing wrong with that) and might I reccomend steering clear from Marvel Zombies and the Ultimates as it may hurt to read them. If you little repetition, DC's your way to go and they're lucky to have you...

Well, back to work... see you guys tomorrow!

I'm 90% Marvel and I collect about 20 of their titles a month. Yes there is some suckage out there but there are also some really great books with very quality stories.  If you are looking for really hardcore or undergroudn kind of stories you won't find them at Marvel particularily but the same can be said of DC.  For the superhero genre there's something very comforting to me about knowing the history of these characters and their past relationships and Marvel does manage to keep that part going (while pissing on continuity in many other ways)

I'd say start out small and take a few titles that I would say have been consistently good like Daredevil for one and see if it can maintain your interest. You may not go in for the big crossover events but Secret Invasion is heads and tails about WWH so far.

I have to admit I'm a Marvel fan and that's largely based on what I grew up on. I have so much history with the characters it may be why I have such a hard time getting into my DC titles.

What's in my long boxes? http://www.comicspriceguide.com/world/default.asp?m=icebreaka
