The biggest reason I do not buy NEW comics is the $$$. $3 for a new book is ridiculous, and I see it going up higher.

1. They cost to much.
2. To many variants: sketch, gold, B&W, etc...
3. To many titles for one character(s), Example: X-men, Spidey etc..
4. To many crossovers...they seem to have them almost every 3 months!

People just bash them cause they're not worth anything, and comic collecting is mostly an investment hobby.

Exactly.  And they are still pissed about paying too much in the early 90s.  The not worth anything part is only true of comics from about 1990-1997, when the "collector" base was unnaturally mutiples large than the "fan" base.

New comics are expensive, but are now cheaper than a gallon of gas.

Gas prices affect shipping costs. Paper is heavy.  And new comics have to ship fast. If you want new comics and one of two stores has the new comics - which would you shop at? (Right, the one that has the issues you want to buy.)

I'd guess the price will at least double in the next 5 years.

Moderns may be high now..(I agree)....but how much are older books to buy now compared to moderns?....A Lot more expensive if you want good ones.

So, that gripe is a little silly. It won't stop me from buying them.

although the last new new comic i bought was in i think 03 maybe 04 when i was on vacation bored out of my mind and ran into a place selling some new ones. Ive always liked TMNT and picked up on of those. Granted before that i had bought others but mostly older 70's ones. What killed me when it came to buying new ones was on the first page they droped the f bomb atleast twice. i was like WOW theres no need for that at al. To this day i mostly only get newer anything 90's and up if its in a lot that i buy. Although i have seen some newr 04 ones i picked up in lots that might have me looking into some newer stuff.  So was it that i just grabed the wrong comic, or are all the new ones full of swears?

I agree about the cost of the books, $2.99 for a comic book is getting to be too much. When I started reading comics, the cover price was 12 cents. I remember ( I sound like a old fart) when comics went up to 75 cents per book and I gave them up but after awhile, I came back to the hobby. I'm happy that the artists and writers are being paid better than in the past but $4. or $5. for one comic book will be where I cut way back on my buying habit!

I agree whole heartedly that it is the price that creates everything negative about comics today.

When I was young (before my teens) comics were .10 cents .12 cents. I got about 2 bucks for my allowance then every week. Two bucks bought alot of comics, but back then, I was reading them for pleasure, and did not think about value and collecting them like I do today. I collect them today hoping to have something valuable to sell for a profit. I still buy some titles to read, because I like the story or artwork, but the price of them prohibits me from buying the same volume of books that I did when I was using up my whole allowance on comics. I bought weekly 18 to 20 comics back then. Sometimes less cuz of annuals that sold for .50 cents.

Back in the early 90's my own son began collecting, and I also got interested in it, and allowed myself about $30 a week. The average price was about $1.99, but in just a few years, it went up just like our gasoline prices are doing to us right now, sapping out every penny then can get from us, just for greed's sake. Now, I buy only online at Ebay, at reduced costs. I can reasonably get all those books that are $2.99 to $4.95 now, for about a buck each, sometimes less.

That's where some new collectors are starting to come from.  There are millions of comics that sell for a buck or less, down to a dime when buying multiple longboxes...  There's good reading value in those...  So, the low cost, easy entry point into the hobby is buying huge stacks on ebay where shipping is more then the items...  or find them on craigslist and avoid the shipping cost...  That's a lot different than the late 70s, which was new issues at 7-11 or 3 packs of Star Wars at the grocery store.
