| I dunno why people seem to get all uppity about negative feedback when it comes to eBay. I'm not frightened of negs on my account but I do get upset when sellers won't leave feedback until the buyer has doneso...It's like if you neg them they will neg you right away EVEN THOUGH you've done the right thing buy paying them. Negs are there to be used correctly but it'll never happen...So eBay.au did something about it and made it so sellers can only leave positive feedback....While I don't agree with it....I think sellers have just as much right to neg a buyer if they were slow with payment or kept putting of the payment or never answered their emails. I think if eBay could put in some system that once the buyer has paid the seller has to leave feedback right away be it positive or neg..They can't wait.....I dunno how something like this could work...Too many holes in the idea. But yea people always seem scared of tarnishing their 100% score. Icebreaka inspired me to post this thread since his reply to my last topic.

batfan (5/14/2008) i will not leave any feedback if i am not happy. the seller might leave a neg. if i do.So that means your scared of getting a retalitory(sp) neg then? If you're unhappy for whatever reason it's the time to use the neg or neutral...or even getting in contact with the seller firstly telling them why you're upset. But by going quiet you're allowing other fellow buyers to possibly fall into the same unhappy trap that you got into...Yea?

I guess as a buyer, "afraid" isn't really the right word, because after all, what can a seller do? Can they cancel my bid if I have a 95% rather than a 100%? While I definitely do mistrust the fact that most sellers won't leave feedback until I do, I can understand it. The transaction is not over just because I've paid. I can still mess with them a lot if I'm feeling nefarious. I can say that the stuff never arrived, that it arrived really late, that I got ripped off on shipping...any number of things. So I can understand why a seller wouldn't want to give me a positive just because I paid quickly.
On the few occasions that a seller has given me a positive feedback right after payment, I've been pretty surprised & pleased. I suspect that when I get around to selling I won't leave any feedback until I hear from the buyer in some way that they've received their goods and are satisfied.
Nonetheless, for whatever reason, I have yet to give a negative feedback to anyone. If I'm unhappy with some aspect of a transaction I'll highlight it in my feedback description. To date, I've only had one transaction that I really considered giving a negative feedback. I got a CGC copy of Flash 110, and the guy did such a piss-poor job of packaging it that the outer case shattered in transit. He put it diagonally in a cube-shaped box with basically no padding ... it didn't have a chance. I haven't left feedback for him yet. I know from emailing with him that he's the type of person to give me a negative right back if I neg him.

I am one of those sellers who dont leave feedback until after the buyer does. I have burned twice by buyers who left me a negative feedback after I had left feedback. They never tried to contact me to work it out, they just left negative feedback and burned me. One of them left a neg because he thought he was buying something else when it was clearly stated in the auction and picture what I was selling. He didnt even want to return the item for a refund. So from now on I dont leave any feedback first. I stay in close contact with my buyers and let them know that once they leave feedback, I'll do the same.

It points to no single instance where this end has justified that means, where appeasement has led to more than a sham peace. Like blackmail, it lays the basis for new and successively greater demands until, as in blackmail, violence becomes the only other alternative." | As a seller I've always left feedback first (usually right after I've shipped the item). I don't subsrcibe to the 'hostage feedback' that many adhere to. As a buyer, in a few cases where I had already left feedback and then discovered a problem, I sent a message explaining my issue, why I wasn't happy, got a decent resolution from them and the seller's left me positive feedback. I have one neutral from a guy who couldn't read, but 200+ positives is not too shabby overall.

I have over a thousand transactions and 1 negative. It came from a seller who was paid correctly and instantly and promised in their auction shipping in 3 business days for an item I bought for my Daughter's 18 birthday over 45 days in advance. When it did not arrive within one week, I contacted the seller to ask for an update. No word from the seller. I waited another week and contacted the seller again, no word. On the third week, I contacted the seller with a caveat that I would open a dispute if they did not respond. The seller responded that the item was on the way. I asked for a tracking number as per their auction description and the fee I paid for delivery confirmation. Silence. After the fifth week, I again contacted the seller with a request for an update and a tracking number, the seller responded tersely that they were very busy and would get my information to me as soon as possible. Well to make this much shorter than it should be, the item arrived June 23, 2005 or 29 days after my daughter's birthday and a full 10+ weeks after payment. I left the seller a neutral, with comment about the slow shipping.
Lifetime Summary: Positives:1051Negatives:1|Positive Feedback:99.9%
This is what I left them

The funny thing is they stopped selling about 6 months later because of so many complaints. But do you think it was fair to get that kind of retalitory feedback? No. That is when I realized that leaving feedback for stupid people was not helpful because they can lord it over you, so I took to writing detailed and inspirational letters documenting their stupidity and giving them lectures on proper seller/customer relations, while pointing out I spent 15 years in sales and I know what it takes to make people happy.
Where does he get those wonderful toys!
I have yet begun to surrender.
