its nice that ebay forbids profiteering on shipping charges.......but they have their hand out for listing, final value fee, not to forget paypal charges for accepting payment.

If the seller listed $10 as s/h handling charges and you knew this before you bid on it.........I can understand you are upset by the charges but don't see how you can complain about it after the fact. you could list it in your feedback but a negative might be a bit excessive....just my opinion.......

eBay's rules expressly forbids jacking up postage costs to make a profit. I agree with Set One.

Do they? That's interesting, I didn't know that. I recently went through the first few steps of listing an item, and when I got to the part about shipping, eBay.com asked me how much I wanted to charge for handling. It then added this to the cost of postage for me. So I'm not sure how that works with their rules against inflated shipping charges.

Maybe if you call it shipping & handling it's okay?

The reason for this is that ebay does not base its final value fee on the cost for postage, only for the final cost of the item up for bid. That is why ebay has these rules, so they don't get pinched for their cut. Some sellers use this to avoid fees to ebay (like charging $10.00 to ship an item that actually costs $1.00...right Set )

Interestinger & interestinger. If this is the case, I feel a bit better about high shipping costs. As long as I'm already considering S&H as just a part of the cost of the comic or whatever I'm bidding on, I'm happy to know that it's all going to the seller. From what I hear on these boards, eBay's fees are high.

I'm just curious...Would you have purchased the same item if it was listed for $35.00 and free shipping?

I agree that ebay rules on postage charges should be followed BTW.

Yes, I'd purchase it with free shipping. I know that might look strange but it's the fact if people like him keep ripping off the system eBay will change their charges and keep getting harder on us folk who want to just move a couple of items.

True eBay is making loads of money from their companies (not just eBay) but IF you don't play by their rules they can make things hellish for people abiding(sp) by the rules...They are already doing it with higher fees and have just put in some crazy rules for Australia (which the US eBay rejected because of laws).

I don't mind people adding in a HANDLING charge...$1 to $2 extra I'm not worried..But $9 for handling...I don't think so.

Easy...They said the charge would be $10 for shipping + Handling....I don't expect a handling fee to be $9 and shipping to only be $1..I'd expect it to be the other way round especially when it just arrived in a bag without any type of bubble wrap. So therefore I got an unexpected shock. I knew fully well how much I was paying for shipping and I did think it was alright but again I STRESS I live outside the main part of Australia and prices can be higher to ship here than just within the main part of Australia.

Yes eBay fees are getting worse...But have you thought about it from this perspective...People are trying to rip of eBay with higher s&h charges so therefore eBay raises their fees to COVER their loss?

Doesn't matter that they already make lots of money anyways..it's besides the point. People abusing the rules make it harder. Like a bunch of people all doing a good thing then all it takes is ONE bad person to stuff things up..Happens in real life all the time.

I'm in no way saying I agree with eBays fees being as high as they are but you either use their system or not...Find other ways of selling. It's pointless to complain about their fees because they will do as they see fit. But people ripping off buyers gets me pissed off.

If the shipping is listed as $10 and they charge you $10 why neg the guy? At worst you give the medium feedback level. I'm sorry Set0ne but I can't agree. I'd be unhappy to know they shipped it for so much less but I'd never neg them. I have to assume you are ending up with a neg back from the seller? Was that worth it?
