Sooo like my subject tells I got burnt by postage....Seller charged $10 for shipping and it only cost them $1 to send....It pissed me off. So I got in contact with the seller asking for a refund on postage which they refused to give me so I negged them tonight!

Then a few minutes later I get this email to my private account:

I understand that you are somehow disappointed about that but I believe you have received the item in good and undamaged condition even though it was sent in plain envelope.

I have clearly mentioned in the listing, $10 is for postage + handling
fee which is not negotiable. The net item price $25 is actually below my
cost. To recover my cost, ebay fee and slim profit, I need to charge $10
for each item. Most buyers are quite happy so far (see my feedbacks) with this practice.

To buy on ebay, I think we should consider the total cost (item price +
postage) and then make judgment whether the item is bargain or not.
Frankly, what I want from selling it is $35 in total (each unit). I could adjust the price to $30 + $5, $33 + $2 or even $35 + free postage but no matter what buyers will still need to pay $35. I pick the combination of $25 + $10 is to increase the exposure to whom looking for lowest item price.

Once again, I apologise for any disappointment. I hope you
understand my difficulty in pricing on ebay which is no longer easy to
make money...

You know that it is always heart-broken when someone gives you negative
feedback especially when I am a seller. I don't think it is fair in the current situation unless I had sent you with pirate copy or even worse I had not sent the game to you. I would like you to review the negative feedback and consider to withdraw it for me. I have no problem to refund $5 which is part of the postage if you can do this favor for me. Just let me know.

-

Now this email is just rehersed...Lots of other people have gotten mad at this seller for their horrible charges...I thought $10 for shipping wasn't bad because I live outside the main part of Australia so I didn't think anything of it until it arrived to me last week. The thing that stinks is they are NOW tell me they can give me a refund of only $5 but I wouldn't believe them at all. They can cop this neg! I asked for a refund before the neg but they wouldn't budge so hence the neg....Now they making themselves look all 'poor' and 'hurt' because they recieved my neg.

I'm unsure if they can neg me back because of eBay.com.au new rules..But seriously they could avoid all this by just charging the RIGHT price plus a little bit for handling...But $9 over I don't think so.

Why Would you neg someone who clearly told you his shipping and HANDLING cost?????

Would you rather he gave the money to the post office?????

Making $9 on shipping is piker money. Call one of those tv ads you know 19.95 with S+H and you will find out what High Handling costs really are.

Heck order a pair of earrings from the NBC Universal store and they charge you $25 bucks shipping. (And good luck finding the shipping costs before the end of checkout.)

Now I don't overcharge on shipping in my Ebay store but I have bought plenty of Long Boxes that charge $40 to ship and the shipping label is $18. But the listing was clear on the shipping costs and the TOTAL COST was what I wanted to pay.

So you would rather pay $25 for an item and $1 shipping than $15 dollars and $10 shipping??????

Alright I'll stop now I'm heading towards rant mode sans coffee.

In my post I wrote "I thought $10 for shipping wasn't bad because I live outside the main part of Australia so I didn't think anything of it until it arrived to me last week." This is WHY the $10 didn't bother me until I got the package and it was only labled with $1.

Would you rather he gave the money to the post office?????

YES because the package came in a normal plain bag with NO protection for the item what-so-ever! It could have been crushed and recked (it wasn't a comic I purchased). Postage was stated as $10 that is it..I wasn't paying for that extra cash to slip into HIS pocket without the eBay charges! These types of people who rip off the system screw it up for everyone else who plays FAIR.

So you would rather pay $25 for an item and $1 shipping than $15 dollars and $10 shipping??????
The whole cost was $35(with shipping) not $25.

I'll neg people when I find the package they used only cost them $1 and charged me $10! And especially if the seller isn't going to protect the goods it's even more room for alarm. They should just play it right to begin with..Charge the $35 for the item and then the $1 for shipping and i wouldn't have blinked or thought to neg.

First of all, I will partially agree with the seller that looking at the price plus shipping is what we should all do, but that only makes since if the shipping is clearly not profit margin.

I would simply forward the seller's email along with a brief explanation to EBay and allow them to deal with it. I would not remove the negative nor would I consider the refund as it amounts to extortion. Ebay clearly states that unreasonable shipping and handling charges are not allowed and the seller should wise up that seller's who treat their customer's correctly not only get happy customers but they also get repeat customer's and word of mouth business.

As for the other response so far in this thread, he misses the point. You don't mind paying reasonable S & H (which you did)and probably would not have said a thing if he had spent $5 or so dollars on it, but 1/10? Get real.

Where does he get those wonderful toys!

I have yet begun to surrender.

I hate to say it, but I tend to agree with the first responder. If the listing was clearly marked $10 for postage & handling, then you shouldn't be upset, regardless of what they actually paid the post office.

I'd start to feel differently if the shipment was seriously late because they paid for cheap postage, as in later than was specified in the listing. Other than that, I just feel it's a case of caveat emptor (sp?). And obviously, you should consider the cost of what you're buying to be sale price plus S&H. If that total works for you then it shouldn't matter where the money goes.

Yeeeeep! All of this is exactly what I'm thinking but Joker you explained it much better than myself

Okay, I really want to stress something because you've one KEY point in my post like Pitt did....I said I wasn't all that worried about the $10 fee because I live outside of the main part of Australia. I've been charged the same price beforehand on similar items and it's been THAT exact cost..So you can see why I really wasn't worried about the price as it sounded reasonable for me especially living where I do.

It matters to me because I thought I was spending $10 on shipping not for him to pocket the extra $9.....Is that making sense?

yeah it definitely makes sense ... you feel like you got burned for nine bucks. All I'm saying is that if you were willing to pay that price for the comic, then maybe it doesn't really matter where the money went, know what I mean? From my experience, the shipping that I've paid on ebay has almost ALWAY been more than the seller's actual cost. I just figure that's the way it is and calculate that into what I'm willing to pay for whatever I'm bidding on.
